Built a box, thinking about going with a different design *pics*

Redefining body roll
Well I built a box for my 12" Dayton RS HO, using moe-lesters design (thanks - btw), it's 2ft^3 tuned to 31 hz. It's really loud, but alot more boomy than I was hoping for, I'm sure some of that's due to how low it's tuned. The box seemed too 'Boomy", and it sounded a little sloppy. It was my first time building a box, and the fist time I've ever used a ported box., so I didn't really know what to expect. I don't listen to rap often at all, but just for kicks I'll (well, to show off) crank it every once in a while.

Here are my Questions:

Would a box tuned higher yeild a little better SQ? Or would I just be better off going with a sealed box?

Also, If I added another sub and decided to use a vented enclosure, would it be okay if the shared the same air space? (for simplicity of box design)

Comments suggestions?

SQ=Lower tuned boxes/Sealed Boxes
In other words, tuning this box, or any other similar box 'higher' in frequency will not yield the results you're looking for. Most likely...

An easy way to play with tuning and finding out what you like is:

Build a standard ported box for your sub, and use a 4" PVC pipe port, or multiple pipes if its required. Tune it real low. Once installed and listened to, take JUST THE PORT back out, and hack a chunk off. Doing this will make the tuning higher each time, and it will be easy for you to find out which frequency you should tune your next ported sub project at.

Sorry, I babbled a bit... I tryed!

Hey Bolognablake, I recognize you from the Jeep Forum, sweet deal man. Do you like the volume you have now, want more, less, etc? What are you going for, more sound quality or sound quality level?

Not trying to be mean, but in the first two pics the lines were nice and clean...but in the end there was glue everywhere. What happened?
I over did the glue on the top, and I used a paper towel to wipe it off, but instead I just kind of smeared it all over the place. I keep telling myself I'm going to carpet it, but I doubt I'll get around to it.

I'm shooting more for sound quality, as most of the time I have my subs turned almost all the way down on my HU. But I'd like to be able to make it uncomfortably loud if I want to.

Kinda like having a 600HP big block in a daily driver, 95% of the time you don't need most of the power, but you have to burn a little rubber every once in a while. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

That's a good idea. Would some where around 28hz be too low?

Well, looking at the 'Woofer Buying Guide' in the Parts Express catalog, they recommend 1.34ft^3 tuned to 28hz for a vented box. My box was 2ft^3 @ 31hz. Maybe I was just giving the sub too much room?
