Building my PC

well i have a 1337 computer........from 2000 and i need a new one! i was looking around and then i though i want to build it, how hard is it.......i have a few books on it and my GF's dad does that kind of stuff. how much did some of you guys building it spend? what should i look for and what we sites should i go 2 for it? i have fry's down here, and i know about newegg.com

tigerdirect.com is good...

all my PC's except for the most recent have been homebuilt.. not really hard..

if your worried about difficulty you could always buy a barebone and add the other components

i spent about 700 on mine right before AMD switched thier freakin socket.... ugh i coulda saved 100 bucks easy, also i wanted to save desk space so i got an aspire q-pack case with a Micro-ATX form factor mobo so i coulda saved another 100, but i can play FEAR, Doom3, and Farcry maxed out, no lag whatsoever

i got a small form factor case by aspire

AMD athlon64 3500+ - 150.00

MOBO w/4 ram slots built in audio - 80.00

RAM - 2gb low latency Patriot - 120.00 (still waiting on the rebate)

G-card - eVGA 256mb 7600GT - 180.00

74 gig raptor - 125

but what you need for shopping is:

Case

Motherboard

CPU/Fan

Hard Drive

Optical Drives (cd/dvd)

RAM

Graphics Card

Sound Card

make sure everything matches the motherboard.

if I was to build another I would get...

pci express video card (has to match motherboard)

at least 512 RAM preferably 1Gb+

dont get celeron (learned the hard way)

...but thats what i would do if i was to build another (which I can't afford)

dell has some good deals though..if you dont have your heart set on building one

well the thing is, i have friends n stuff that can get this stuff for cheap and i think building one would be more fun instead of buying it

yeah it is fun.. my dad and I just built a carPC several months ago..to bad he fried multiple components by feeding 12V into the output. (he decided he didn't need to consult me first)

go to http://www.pcapex.com it teaches you alot, same thing with http://www.bit-tech.net ..... dont go with the newest stuff, it wont be new in 2 months...

i would go with

amd 939 opteron 165

dfi lp sli 939 board

2X 7600 in sli (vid card)

atleast 1 gig of ram...2 if needed

beefy psu

and a raptor( hard drive

You got the pricing jacked up on the 3500. It's only a little over half that now. $150 get's you a 3800x2
