What distro do you guys prefer?

I tried a few distros in the past that I could never really get used to and just stuck to Windows. Recently Microsoft deactivated my Windows XP and I switched to Ubuntu Dapper just as a meantime thing. But **** I'm really getting comfortable with this distro. I've never actually been happy using Linux until I found Ubuntu.

Just wondering what you guys use...

mandrake is pretty easy to use, redhat is nice aswell

just takes a little bit to get used to and get all your hardware working but you will love it once you get the hang of it

True, I was really impressed that Ubuntu recognized my Soundblaster Extigy out of the box. Not even Windows recognized it out of the box.

When I used Mandrake, I really didn't like it. It was filled with too much crap.

Ubuntu or Redhat for linux, but I've NEVER had the balls to go pure-linux, only dual boot. As a gamer i dont have much choice :p

At this point I am just running pure XP on both my boxes. It sucks that its so corrupt and ultra-businessed-out, because computer technology and the internet is such a free and open techology it almost irks me that there is such an extreme standard for a platform. It's sort of tainting the whole "wild west" concept for me.

But then again, as admirable as the open source software has gotten, XP has more resources in the real world to have serious development put into it to produce the best applications and games and pretty much everything else completely optimized for it.

That said, I hope linux gets more popular just to break the homogeny in teh computing world.

Well I'm trying to gather the balls to go pure linux right now. There are ways to run any Windows apps or games on linux. So far aside from games, I've found great linux equivalents to all the apps I've been using on Windows.

The best part is, its sooo much faster than Windows and its pretty much Spyware/Virus proof.

went hard core with redhat, liked it. but then i needed photoshop and reason etc. etc. so it just made more sense to switch back. plus i love crashing and losing all my work. also love using lots of ram, i mean, why not?
