Building my first system

I'm a total noob when it comes to Audio car systems. This is my first system and I want to have the best system on my block. I have a 1993 Lincoln town car so I got the space for it.

Now I know every great system needs a great head unit.

KENWOOD KDC-HD942U is my fav choice right now. It's right around 200. Not too cheap but not breaking the bank either.

Is there anything better then this for around 200? I'll go as high as 250. I want quality.

Now I got stock speakers right now. I've been looking and Infinity seems to be the shit for speakers. I need to replace my stock 6x8s/5x7s (2) and my stock 6x9s (4).

First off, let's start with the 6x8s/5x7s.

Which would be the best bet?

INFINITY 680.9CS 6x8 or Infinity Kappa 682.9cf

I know the 680.9CS has a component system. But couldn't I just build my own custom component system? I would need crossovers and tweeters.

What would be the best overall crossover and tweeter? Could I use Pyramid TW67 tweeters? What kind of amp would I need to power all these badboys? Subs can wait, I need to get the basics down first.

stay away from infinitys. Kappas are alright but not high quality by a long shot.

I am a huge fan of rainbow. it will cost you a pretty penny but its well worth it

your going the wrong/cheep-o way out man. read the Speakers sub-forum on here and get an idea of good, quality speakers. Like old-greg said, stay away from Infinity, junk. And pyramid? Also complete junk.

I would also stay away from 6x8's. Get some adapter plates (or make them) and use a good 6.5" component system. I'm not familiar with the Town Car, but you may even be able to fit a 6.75 or a 7" in there.
