Building box for 1st SPL comp

It will be in a BMW 540i. Unfortunately, the rear seat does not fold down. but, the same could be said about cadillacs whose trunk seal very well also. I'm sorry, I dont know what that is. I know the basics, but I'm constantly trying to learn new things.
Upper class BMW's seal sound great. They have double thick glass. Some guy came from canada to a show in the 90's at cartunes on gratiot near detroit and did 154 with two 15's ported. He wouldnt show the trunk but when he rolled the windows down I seen the glass and noticed his subs.

people tellin you that you cant win obviously have more money than sense. If you have the right box, you can be loud........with anything pretty much. Build you a box that is easy to change out if you feel there is something better you can do to get you a little louder. Im not saying you can do a 150 wit the sub, but a 140 i'd say is quite reachable if you play around with some designs and stuff.

Ok thanks for the encouragement. If i get hooked I'd love to upgrade. Although most people around here that I'd compete against have Pyle and pyramid speakers, so i'm not going to need an upgrade anytime soon. I'll probably build the box xluben reccomended. If anybody else has any designs they think work post them up. Nice to see a helpful site to the new guy every now an then.

just to warn you, that box will not sound good for daily use!

it's pretty much just gonna get loud for competing.

also, i forgot you were going with a 15, so you'll probably want more than 2ft^3.

spl box:

if you want something that will be loud, but still sound ok for daily use, go more like 35-40Hz for tuning.

daily loud box:

I think I'll go with 45 hz because that gives me just enough port space to compete in the crazy port class. That box designer is the post helpful thing ever. Thanks a million.

I see you're from MN, did you happen to see the MN gophers game today?

Because people tell me all the time how Audiopipe is not a decent company because they are made by audiobahn.
You've been misinformed. They are pretty new to the game though. Their amps are made by chunglum. They are working on a triple-stacked higher RMS sub to be released around Xmas. I don't care for their site too much though.

Thanks for the input. The peolpe I'd be competing against were hitting about 138. Some were using Cadence, Kicker L7's, MTX, and such. In west hicktown GA though, it's not super tough competition or anything. Many people have at the comp last night had things such as 4 15's and 3,000 watts in like a 5 cubic ft box and hit 142. So, I think it is mainly something that the knowledge of the correct box, and how to tune it.

Man you guys are quiet lol.

Dis-regard the part of power n audio's 1st post about sound deadening. It all depends on the cars. Some cars actually LOSE SPL by deadening certain panels. SPL is a weird thing, some of the stupidest ideas work.

You do NOT need to spend money to be loud. It's fun working with what you've got, I think.Any sub has the potential, including his current.

It's all in the box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

not getting on a pissing contest with you here.

but you do have a point. on the sound deadeinig material not being needed on all vehicle.

he will find out once the enclosure is in place and panels actualy start flexing and vibrating hard.

panels that flex, absorb energy, energy that would of increaced cabin preasure but it didnt, because it was too bussy flexing panels and resonating anything that can resonate because it wasnt sound deadend,

every sub has the potential to create spl. how loud? that is the question.

it is funn to grab any sub and build an enclosure to make the sub blast out some high numbers. for me it is, since i know what im doing. will it be for a stranger to car audio?, i would say more like frustrating.

yeah the enclosure can make or break a sub. but give me an spl designed sub and a sub design for small cramp spaces and for the reproduction of music as close as posible to what was recorde "like the sub the thread was started with" and build the "perfect" enclosure for the sub and give each the rated power value to each sub, both tested in the same vehicle and location. im sure the spl designed sub will win the comp hands down. no doubt.

i didnt make my first post on this thread to be an ***. " sorry to the post starter if i did" i was trying to bring to mind what it takes to compete. yeah theres people out there that do this and that diffrent then other people. well i just explained the most comon thing to do, if hes going to compete.

take the advice or not. thats up to the thread starter.

laters.
