I picked up a couple JL 8w6's last night for a good price. The box that they came with was originally for 3 8w6's, so I basically have a big hole and an unusable box. I figure I'll put together a box of my own and want to double check my math.

The JL specs for this box ask for a sealed enclosure to be 0.375 ft3. The demensions for 3/4 MDF are 16” x 9” x 8”.

So I need twice this space for two speakers (~.75 ft3). I want the enclosure as narrow as possible which, I believe, is around 7" (to make my numbers easy to deal with //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . The speaker overall depth is 4.6875" so I'm rounding up to 5" - add 2" as a min space deeper than the sub). First pass says it should be approx. 31.25" x 10" x 7". That's basically 32x10x7 - the width of one board (.75") that won't separate the speakers in the middle of the box.

Am I off?? I basically want to keep it to around 7" wide if possible, what should my height and length be (outside length)?

Does it makes sense to do something else with the box? I really don't pull the 3rd row out of my Suburban often, so I'm looking for something as narrow as possible so that it doesn't take up much storage space in the back. I have as much space as I can use for width, and the height really won't be much of a factor because the seat, folded down, is a good 12" or so.

Thanks for your help. I only found this forum a week ago and it's already been helpful. Hopefully someone will reply to one of my requests for an amp. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
