ill get pics of the room later. theres no windows, its deadened really good, etc.

right now its just an empty room. we're lookin for a projector, then ill put together a nice 7.1 system. even gonna put those bass shaker things on the backs of the seats.

heres what i started today. 124" widescreen. i decided to build it rather than buy one, because the wall its going on was hard to get the biggest premade screen on...

what i got done in about 30 minutes.

still have a lottttttttttt of bracing to do.

i cant find the material i need locally that is wide enough. its all 54" wide (i knew i wouldnt find anything locally) so im going to have to order it in 72" width online i guess. my width is 60.75".......

Everywhere I read said 7.1 is a waste. Problem being your dvd player might be 7.1 or 6.1 but most discs are only encoded 5.1 so what it does is just split the channels they aernt actually their own channels. Of course its been a year and a half or so since I really read up on it. Oh and do a IB.

I would have used 1x3's or bigger and avoided all of the bracing. Gotta be plenty of fabric places online that have blackout cloth in a bigger bolt then 54".

Also hit up avsforum as they have a DIY screen section. Different cloth will offer a different gain and work better/worse depending upon the projector you end up with.

Been running an Optoma for about 2 1/2 years and very happy with it. Only have a 92" screen, but from 12' away it's plenty big.

What are you considering for the audio portion? If you don't want a DIY sub then look into EPIK run by Chad who used to own Ascendant Audio.

ive heard 7.1 is a waste too. we may end up doing 5.1. he just wired it for 7.1 when we built the house, becuase im sure eventually things (blu ray) will eventually all be 7.1.

cant do IB, hes not going to want to cut into the walls for that. i wanted to, but we will prally just get 1 or 2 12's or 15s (maybe 1 18") and ill just build a nice box for it.

Very few 6.1 discrete discs available. If you have 7.1 and it's a 5.1 soundtrack it will "matrix" the rear surrounds off the sides. If the room is rather big then I'd do 7.1, otherwise 6.1 is fine.

not yet. not looking to spend more than 1500ish on a projector. its not gonna be used everyday (most likely wont be used much) so he doest have like 5k+ to drop on a projector. same with audio. gonna get the best sound we can out of the budget he gives me.

what Optoma model do you run?

pic of it in use on your screen?

i was going to get 1x3s but they were like $2.37, these were .97 cents. im going to put 1/4" birch over the top once im done building and bracing the frame, before i wrap it.

I've run my set up 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1 and I do enjoy the rear surround vs only 5.1 Movies like JPIII when the dino's are running through the field and passing by them the sound travels front to back and makes you feel like you're there. Same with overhead planes, etc...

More sub the better IMO. I run 2 15" RL-P's (10cubes each) and have no need to get bass shakers. 18 will require a HUGE enclosure but is well worth it. I did an RL-P earlier this year in 18+cubes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

I was into HT way before car audio, but enjoy both now.
