Build Me A System

My uncle just bought a Mazda 3 and wants to upgrade the sound system. He plans on leaving the rear speakers and factory HU in place. I have a $400 budget to work with. He isn't an audiophile by any means, just last month he spent $200 on some low-end Polk speakers:wow: for his other car.

So far I decided on:

Front Stage: PG RSD65CS - $87

Wiring : Knu 4AWG Kit - $40

Amp: ?

Sub: ?

That leaves $273 for an amp and sub, definitely a tight budget. I know he doesn't want used equipment either. Give me some suggestions, for the sub preferably something that works well in a smallish sealed box.

Yes I was looking at the maw12. And yea an amp for that cheap is gonna be hard to find. I was thinking of just getting a low-power sub and bridge two of the channels off a four-channel amp to run the sub?

First off, I suggest Mach 5 for your subwoofer. They have several very cheap subwoofers, and they are very decent quality. Best bang for the buck in my opinion.

I got an MJ-18 for $120 shipped to my door. Thing is beautiful, been feeding it 750 watts for about a month now, and it performs great. Not the loudest, but it gets the job done. Also I believe you can find Kicker CVR's for like $60 shipped. Havent heard them before, but Ive heard good things. Then there's always the Type-R, beasty and relatively cheap at about $150 shipped on ebay, maybe even less.

For an amp, just try to find one that matches the wattage and impedance you need. You have to find out how much wattage the subwoofer can take, and find out what impedance youre going to run it at. You have to make sure the amp not only puts out that much wattage at that impedance, but you have to make sure its stable at that ohm rating.

So decide what subwoofer you want to get, and then try to find an amp that will give it the power it needs. If he's not an audiophile, then it should be very easy to please him with $273. But you may also have to build/buy the box, so dont forget to account for that.

Also, even though he may not want used equipment, you can find some GREAT deals in the classifieds section. Just FYI

save and wiat on it but if that isnt an option I guess I would say a type r 12" and a 1000watt kenwood amp
He isn't strapped for cash, he just doesn't really want to spend much more than that. He came over to my house planning to just buy components, but than it spiraled from me telling him "they won't sound good off of factory power" to "let's just do a complete system."

amp:http://www.cadencestore.com/ProductCart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=125&idproduct=386

and a single maw10, $77 shipped.

total would be $227, and then he could always buy another maw10 and run that amp at 1ohm for the pair.
Thanks for the link, I completely forgot to look at Cadence for an amp.
