hey im going to be building a computer for a good buddy of mine.. he wants me to choose the parts for him because he trusts i'll try to find the cheapest prices i can find and i know how to build computers and set them up.. im bsaically all my friends computer's warranty //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif. i've built about 6 computers from bare parts for my friends in the past two years... most of the times they chose the parts themselves.. it seems like there are so many processors to choose from these days with all this dual core and other new technology. can someone knowledgable in computer parts tell me what they would recommend? for sure, im going to be getting 2 gigs of DDR RAM and i want the video card to be the highlight of the system since it is going to be a gaming rig. also, anyone know anything about DDR vs. DDR-2?? should i go with a motherboard that supports DDR1 or DDR2? i want the video card to be a PCI-Express vid card. deciding between a radeon or geforce for the vid card of course, but cant figure out which model to go with.. so yea, if anyone knows whats good for its price please share..

i usually buy my stuff from a store called Computer Depot here in san diego. they are a warehouse pretty much and heres the link to their website:

i think theyve got some good prices and dont carry products that really arent worth selling or buying

sold! thanks jmac.. i have an athlon 64 myself and always recommended it when my buddies asked me to build them a computer. i guess i was right for telling them to go with a athlon 64 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i have everything except mother board. 500 watt power supply, green case with side window, 40 gig. hard drive, round cables, 2400 amd proceeser, 1 42x cd-rom, 1 32x cd bruner, g-force video card, copper cooling fan, 3 fans, a hdd cooler, 214 ddr, and il throw in a new motherboard.

make me an offer

RAID 0 = faster with 240 GB of space, but if one goes, you're screwed.RAID 1 = same speed with 120 GB of space, but if one goes, you're fine.
ohhhh i see.. so basically if one goes all information on both hard drives will be corrupted or gone? what can cause a hard drive to "go"? that makes me worry about running it in RAID 0.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

yea i think im going to run it RAID 1 i dont wanna be responsible for losing all his files because i chose to run it in RAID 0 and he accidentally fries one of them.. i dont think hell even need 240 Gigs let alone 120

It's a gaming computer ... Most people with gaming computers reformat every 3-6 months, anyways ...
really? is that really necessary??? wont maintaining the computer by making sure no spyware or adware get installed and defragmenting, eliminate the need to reformat over n over?

yea im going to base the computer on what you recommended jmac dont worry i will not feed into the bandwagon items //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

For a 7800gt you're looking at $300+ though...combine that with the processor, that's $550ish....add in the mb which is gonna at least be 100, plus decent dual channel 2 gig ram is 200+, you're at $850- without a drive, case, psu, hd...gonna be hard to get all that for 1k IMO.
