Budget setup... how does this sound?

I have a '99 Maxima. I'm looking to get this setup soon.

HU: Stock Panasonic AM/FM/Tape/CD

Front speakers: Dayton DC-160-4 shielded mids, Dayton RS tweeters, Dayton x-over.

Rear speakers: Tang Band 6.5" subs lowpassed at ~100Hz, IB in rear deck.

Amp: Profile AP1040

I like the sound of the stock system... the only thing is the back speakers are rated at 15W. The bass is OK as is the clarity... just needs more power.

What do you think?

I've played with the RS180 mids. They can handle a good amount of power of crossed over correctly.

If you think the stock stereo is 'okay', then you'll like almost any new setup you put in it.

My mom has that same car, stock was okay for me, shes got a Pioneer Cd player and Infinity speakers and I think its alot better!!

But if it makes you happy, thats all that matters, oo and btw my mom's stock radio was a Clarion with those 15w Panasonic speakers, eh not too bad for factory lol

Looks like a solid buget set up. A lot of guys use the RS series mids though, like the RS150. Might be worth the extra $$$.
Well according to Parts Express the DC's have a lower FS (35Hz or something crazy like that) and a lower extension. And of course, they're cheaper. I'm trying to keep the whole setup under $300 w/o wires and all that crap.

As far as an H/U... I might get one down the line, but really all I need is a line-in for my Ipod, and a stock looking faceplate. I was thinking a Pioneer DEH-2900 or one of the bottom of the line Sonys. If I could keep my stock radio and connect my Ipod to the CD changer though I would definitely go that route, I just like the OEM look best.

I've never seen any feedback on the DC's, so give them a try and report back on how they sound. Otherwise the RS's are a proven mid and should mate perfectly with the RS tweeter.

What exactly do you have to do for putting subs in the rear deck. I'm not talking about maxima's I mean cars in general. Do you just need to use MDF to mount them? And then sound deaden? Enlighten me.

For the 6.5s I'm just putting them in the stock locations. The back shelf is pretty strong and has a sheet of MDF installed from the factory.

I think I'm gonna go with EU-700s though. They have a higher Qms which I hear is better for IB
