Hi, i'm obviously new here and quite new to car audio, so I signed up in search of advice/suggestions. I am looking to upgrade the OEM set up in the 1997 M Edition Miata and the OEM Infiniti Clarion/Bose. My budget is low so i'm looking for an entry level set up.
Let me start off with what comes with each car:
97 M-ED Miata:
- OEM headunit (CD player)
- 3 1/2 inch headrest speakers
- 6 1/2 inch door panel components
01 Infiniti QX4:
- OEM Clarion 6 CD changer HU.
- OEM iirc Clarion amps.
- Bose 6 1/2" components in front
- Bose 6 1/2 Coaxial's in the rear
The Miata is a weekend cruiser with a soft top. Not looking for outstanding sq and i doubt I can get much with the speaker fitments in the car too. My budget is VERY limited on this car and that is because I just better SQ than OEM. I am willing to spend $350 for speakers and an amp. HU I don't plan on replacing yet. I am undecided on a subwoofer. I know I can only get midbass out of 6.5" components. I am not a big bass head either but I do want some bass to be present when I listen to my music (everything but country //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ).
The Infiniti is a daily driver. Again, not looking for outstanding SQ. I am aiming for another entry level set up that is better than stock. Stock sounds "meh". The highs are muffled and the bass is boomy. Some times when the lows kick in during songs, the coaxials in the back become distorted at high volumes.
The budget for this one is limited also. ~$450 for speakers and an amp. I would like to upgrade my headunit to one with navigation but I don't plan on doing so til late summer.
I am fairly confident that I can do the installation myself. I can do simple/basic DIY's when it comes to audio equipment (amateur DIY from head-fi.org). Build speaker cables, RCA cables, put speaker kits together, build a home audio sub, etc etc. I think you guys got my point, eh? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif .
So, guys. What can you do with my situation here?
Thanks,
Rob.
