I heard the Hifonics Brutus 1500 does not run off the alt. it runs off the battery??? Not really sure if that is true or not, but if it is could i just add a yellow top and 2 caps to this setup instead of upgrading the alt. right away....setup is..2 1500 Bd, 4 12" Alpine Type R, 1 yellow top, and 2 1f caps. I will eventually upgrade the alt. i jsut dont have the money right now, but i dont wanna hook everything up and completely destroy my electrical system.

The battery upgrade is a good idea. Caps put a strain on stock systems so I would not use them. Your car runs off your battery all the time, your alt is to supply a charge to the battery. Sell those caps if you have already bought them and you may have enough to get a decent alt. You will also need to upgrade the size of the power and ground wires that connect your alt to your battery.

I was always under the impression that everything runs off of your alt. while the car is running:confused: and the alt also charged your batt.:veryexcit

Well everything tends to actually run off the battery but at the same time the alternator is working hard at charging the battery and keeping the voltage around 14.4 (the battery is around 12). Ultimatly if your Alternator is not powerful enough and you are drawing more amps than your alternator can provide the battery system will run down and it will be completely running off the alternator. Now if JPLAYA is planning on running his stereo at very low volumes most of the time and cranking it for a minute or two now and then he should have no problem, but why spend so much on all that power when it has to be conserved.

I would say a worthwhile upgrade would be to leave the current battery, save about 300-350 from the yellow top and caps, upgrade the alternator then get the yellow top later

uhhhh... your car does run off of the alternator, why do you think your stuff sees 14ish volts when the car is on, because the power is coming from the alt, if it were coming from the battery it would run at 12ish volts since that is the voltage of a battery

Start your car, then disconnect the battery and see how well your stereo plays

well no shit, you disconnected your alt from the system too if you do that
Actually you would would not disconnect your Alternator by doing this, Im not trying to start an arguement online but how you think you test an alternator's voltage?

Also if stereos are run competely off the alternator then what makes a battery upgrade/ extra batteries so much more effective?
