Bridging lowers woofer SQ?

I was talking with my brother about what amps and subs I'm going to be putting in my truck, and when I mentioned something about bridging a 2 channel amp, he said "Well, if you're going for SQ I wouldn't do that because it lowers the SQ."

And I was like //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif , because I have never heard anyone say that since I've been on these boards.

I asked him to explain, and he said the people he works with (Best Buy) who install systems say they never bridge amps because because they say it lowers the sound quality.

My first thought was: "Yet another reason to never buy audio equipment from BB."

But I just thought I'd run it by you guys to see what ya'll think.

Tell your brother to stop sniffing glue.

It is somewhat true, but usually inaudible. When you lower impedance the amp usually has more THD. More THD makes subs sound distorted.

Anything under 1% is inaudible.

*2%* anything under 100 hz is mono anyway only time it would be noticed is if on a recording (individual mics at that) where there are 2 drum sets one for right other is far left and they were synced to play off beat then you could tell.

Tell your brother to ask some of the guys that won sq nationals using 225 HCCA's at .25 ohms what they think about the wealth of knowledge that the BB installers are distributing.
