breaking in subs real or myth?

Some do, some don't. When I buy a new subwoofer, I don't free-air it..however, I do run it on low volume for a few days before cranking it, slowly turning the volume up. Then, when the time comes...**** gets real. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Hi! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

As my woman just said it depends on the company

I just play my subs full tilt right out of the box.
Go hard or go home...

I will post it again since it is on the other page.

This is a myth created by manufactures to wiggle around in the warranty department. The "break in" only affects the T/S at most and even then is by a very small margin. Anything else pertaining to break in is not true. Sorry to burst some people's bubble lol...

The other thread was full of informative posts if anyone wants to read that and figure out more on the topic.

It cracks me up to see people take it easy for weeks on subs. The subs have RMS ratings and box specs for a reason. Build a proper box, give them proper clean power and run them.

There has been more than one long topic about this. There seems to be a new member every week that doesn't know how to use a search bar.

What pro-rabbit said is all true. Break-in is a real occurrence, but all it really does is slightly change a few T/S parameters. Even then, it only takes a few hours playtime for the changes to be complete.

My subs took about 3-4 hours to break in, in a sealed enclosure. Now they move more, my truck flexes more, and they are louder to the ear. I've heard on some subs if you overpower them while they are new you can rip the spider or it can come unglued. I did that to a sub once, but it was a cheapo

right? lol they dont say okay for the first 2 hours free-air at half rms, then place subwoofer into box and start out at a quarter of the rms for 2 days, then each day after, increase by 10% of the rms until required rms is reached. lol

90% of users would break their stuff if the manufacturers actually expected consumers to do this.

Well that makes it all seem very scientific. My personal reccomendation is this:

Of course if it makes you feel better use whatever magic ritual you feel makes your subs sound better or whatever it is this is supposed to accomplish. Might I suggest a 24 hz tone since they say 8hz is the resonance of the earth and we then have a third wave of that (sounds pretty good huh?). Then you can play it for no more and no less than 88 minutes (since 88 is good luck in Asian countries where they make most of these woofers and parts).

While this is happening you can dress in a raincoat and dance around the car banging the largest pot you have in your kitchen with a wooden spoon chanting "say it now and say it loud, I am gay and I am proud!"

Another waste of bandwidth...
