break in time on Nightshades

yea, give it a few days and see what happens. the dd 1508 that iv had now for about a month seemed to take forever to break in. i beat on it with 1k for about 3 weeks now and today i noticed that i didnt smell the glue heating up any more.

ive also had subs in the past that didnt have any break in issues. you seem to have a strange problem, but give it a few days or so and then give them total hell and see what happens.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

if i wire the sub in parallel, i get 0.5ohm, which is perfect for a dual 1. ive never wired subs this way but should i try wiring each sub in parallel, then series the two subs? i usually series first if i have to then parallel, to avoid a lower ohm load if 1 sub goes out.

only problem is... why are two 1.3ohm coils reading .5ohm in parallel instead of .6 or .7?

im going to play them at moderate levels for the next couple days, ill keep any new info posted in here.

would it be ok to parallel each sub to 0.5ohm, then series the two back to 1 ohm?

i have always wired each DVC subs in series, then paralleled them down to the impedance i needed....

back again... just played around more with my DMM. im definitely getting weird readings on this one sub. if i connect either lead of the dmm to coil #1 and the other lead to coil #2 (either negative or positive of each coil, didnt matter) im getting a reading..... how could that be? i tried this with the other sub and i do not get any reading. could these coils be already wired in series inside the sub? how could that happen? somehow im getting a reading by connecting my dmm this way... 1 lead on coil 1 (either pos or neg on sub, doesnt matter), 2nd lead on coil 2 (either pos or neg again, doesnt matter)... and somehow im getting a reading. they should not be connected in anyway as far as i know... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

do both coils on the weard sub have the same exact reading? if so, could it be possible that its a single coil sub that someone put togeather as a dvc? like if when they wound the coil, they gave it 2 sets of + and - even though is is a svc?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

that seems logical, but why? the seller bought them as DVC subs himself. so thats what he sold me. but under very little play time and just testing it, it might not have been apparent that the sub is built this way... idk. man this is going to keep me up all night lol

and yes, the both coils read the same, 1.3ohm. this is a dual 1 ohm sub. some of these subs tend to read low, like 0.6ohm per coil, so that would make sense if the coils were wired in series under the dustcap. ive never heard of a nightshade being built like this though lol... im not ruling it out yet

the coils HAVE to be connected in some way to get a reading with 1 lead of a DMM on 1 coil, and other lead of the DMM on the other coil...

That is really weird to be getting a reading from one coil to the other. Make sure the tinsels and/or soldered connections aren't touching the basket. Other than that, I'm lost with this.

i checked all the tinsels, everythings looks fine. they are still tied down, not touching the cone or basket. ill re-check everything again when i get home, but these things literally are almost brand new. still stiff.

im kinda stuck here, the sub can be shipped back to sundown and re-coned, but should i ask the person that sold them to me to pay? they were shipped to me in this condition, the coils read the same way now as they did when i opened the box

im ready to give up and sell off everything

hey man, what part of central fla are you in? iam in tampa and would like to check out the weard sub out in person. i wonder if when the coil was wound, someone for got to seperate the 2. and if you decide to get ride of them i may want 1.
