Break In period

Break in, or no break in on subs?

I agree that you don't have to break them in to play them. They will be sonically different once they are broken in.
I believe that specs are taken on subs after a certain amount of play time. So your not hearing nearly as close to the reference as you would say 20-40 hours into playing them.

Will it hurt them to run them within the recommended range from the start? better not, if they are good speakers.
There will be a difference when they are broke in but you don't have to be gentle on them.

Don't make them jump around like a ***** ape but no need to baby them either...

But, I think that applies just about anytime...

Play it at around mid volume so your happy with the volume as well. I would crank it after a couple hours. I could be wrong, but I don't see it taking 20 hours to relax the components to where you can bang full out. It's known that RE makes solid shit.

i dont understand the point of making threads trying to get people to agree with what you want to do.

we all know you started this thread with idea that you should break in subs and you were just looking for reassurance.

i mean 8 people told you no...yet your still going to break them in....

Break in is bullshit.

Take brand new sub, install, WANG chung.

The sub will naturally loosen up, and break in on it's own. It will fall into published t/s parameters, and all the such ON IT'S OWN... naturally through playing it.

There is NO need for break-in what-so-ever... it is NOT necessary... it will NOT damage the speaker or hinder it's performance if you don't do a "break in".

It's good to break it in, but that does mean you can't enjoy it. Just don't crank it up all the way. It will also sound a little different once you have them broken in.

Why is it good to break them in? Would someone who thinks break-in is necessary please explain their reasoning -- specifically related to loudspeakers, not a car engine.
Not cranking it up all the way for a few weeks is going to gain you diddly squat... other than an extreme lack of instant gratification. If you are concerned about the suspension being loosened up, there's no better way to stretch it out than to let it wang...

I made the thread to fine out what the proper way of doing it was, but I never said thats what I was going to base my final decision on, because as of right now (as i already said //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif), I don't even have the means of "just letting it wang". Only pushing 1/4 the power to them...

Wow, sorry for asking a question...

When I picked up my RE SE's, the guys in my local shop told me that I needed to break in the subs at under half power for about 2weeks (or about 20 hours straight, if I wanted to do it faster). I've looked around, and everywhere I look, one guy says "blah blah blah you have to break them in", and then the next will say "blah blah you don't have to do anything, throw them in and let them wang"
I'm currently keeping the volume pretty low (although I still only have them on this lil MA amp, putting 1/4 the power to them that they can handle), because I'm freaked out about clipping (dunno what it sounds like to be honest).

To be honest, when I got my memphis's (that the RE's replaced), I put the suckers in and let them bang from day one. And I beat the shit outta those things for at least 6 months, not one hiccup from them. But now that I'm told about this break in period, I've been really anal trying to keep the volume down.

So what are your guy's opinions on the supposed "Break in period", or breaking in of subs?
thats asking the proper way of doing it?

sounds like your looking for opinions about whether you should do it or not...and your poll agrees.

im not saying anything about you asking a question, but i am saying, why are you asking for what you should do (ie: your poll), but then you do the exact opposite?
