Building a custom box for 2 12 type R's

4 cubes, tuned to 32hz

although im unsure on design. L shape port

http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html

my sunfire is only going to fit 30"x14.5 or 32"x13.5 or close to that, due to angled corners(tons of depth). i know for sure my 32"x14.5 box is an inch or two too big one way to slide out, and ill have to slide the new one in. i could go 34" wide i think, but than down to like 12.5 or 13cm height..

than i need around 24-26 inches depth. making it a big flat box.. is that bad? shape matter?

if i go with 30" width and the port is 4.5 or 5 inches as the calculator says, i only have an inch room. going low, 13.5, leaves me with a 12" board needing a 10.9" hole to mount the 12 incher.. is that so smart? and should i not put an angle in? that could chanige the hz of the box i assume. my 12's barly fit either way i go on that. is it bad to have them that close together, basically right beside eachother or a wall? do i need a inch seperation from the sides of the box and other speaker? i have a feeling the outter ring of the alpines are more than 12" circumfrance total.

and will i need to put anything inside the L port box to dampen it? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

going to be run on a 1200rms nak amp.

are there any more detailed box planning programs? the RE audio calculator is great but it doesnt angle anything but the front. and im terrible with math, i would never get correct measurements if i try to do it on paper.

if anyone can answer some questions for me, that would be great! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif first time builder needs basic answers.

if i put the speakers in the top of the box, faced the port towards the front of the car.. bad idea? port should go on the same side as the speakers?

I don't think 4 cubes is big enough. You need 5 cubes and tune to 32hz. I'm speaking from experience, but I didn't fall in love with these like everyone else. I used them for a week and moved on. The bigger box did sound way better. If you go by Alpine specs or make it smaller the lows will sound funny.

Alpine says to use up to 1.25 or 1.75 cubes ported.. and the box is already huge. i dont want them to over extend, i think with 4 cubes they will move too freely anyways.

what would you suggest over the type R's for under 200 than

You don't listen well. I just told you what size they need. I made the Alpine recommended and it didn't sound good. Someone else also told you they like big boxes. Alpine is wrong! Do you have 1500 watts because that's what it takes to wake them up? Try Rockford P3's or Vega Vmax. I might get flammed but check out the DUB1200. They are real cheap on ebay. All of the above will do better than an R in a smaller box.

i need to get 2 12's and an amp for around 550. im ordering from woofersetc

really think the vmax would beat harder than the alpines? im buying the amp to match with like 200rms extra. i was going to run the alpines 1200 rms on an amp that should do a little more.

what about a single 15? L7?

I'm not saying they will beat the Alpine, but will start to beat harder with less power. Two R's won't reach their full potential with 1200 rms. What Alpine amp model number are you talking about? The 15L7 will be loud but, I don't like squares. I had 2 12L7's before and didn't like the SQ. For $550, I'd do it like this on ebay:

Hifonics bxi1610d/ (4) 07CVR122 $506 ebay Sonicelectronix, you might not have enough room for this one? These need to be 2ohm dvc's. The others are dual 4ohm

Hifonics bxi1610d/(2) PHOENIX GOLD RSDC124 at Audiosavings(ebay)

Hifonics bxi1610d/2 Cvx 12's at hifisoundconnection

Hifonics bxi1610d/2 *** 12's from Audiosavings

Hifonics bxi2010d/2 Pioneer TS-w3002d4 or 2 *** 12's or 2 Cvx 12's

These are good amps compared to the Alpine and will give you more power for your money. They are not better, but still kick pretty hard and don't get hot. I've used both.
