I offered to build a box for my friedn for 50$, he said "thats to ****ing much." so im guessing ppl want it under 65$ i wouldnt pay more than 65$.
Depends. 3/4 MDF will get the job done. 1" will be heavier than the 3/4 but will require less bracing and will be easier to cut. So either is a win win situation, i just prefer 3/4 because of the less weight and a lil bit easier to work with than 1"what would be the better mdf to use 3/4" or 1". thanks alot for all your help
If you think my prices are high, get a quote from a local shop //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gifLoneranger says he builds them "whicked cheap" but really 50$ is the best price. Not 90$ as he priced for me a single 12". which i bought material to make my own today. it costs me 25$ lol.
--they are nice boxes but they are still have high prices--
Best buy...what a joke. This girl goes to my school works and best buy and she tried to convince me that its better to have the ports on top of the box. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif and she didnt know anything about tuning a box. She wanted a ported box, and i asked her what will it be tuned too. she gave me a blank stare and was like, its tuned to play rock and pop. I just shook my head and walked off //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gifOh yeah.. and if it's your first time building.. and first time working with MDF, good luck.
I hope you have a second person to help you, and a really, really nice table saw...
Oh, and I hope you're VERY good with a drill, cause MDF doesn't like "wandering" screws and poorly pre-drilled holes either...
The moral of the story is, try it your first time, but try a sealed box. They are easy. If you want to go ported, buy plans for it, and be prepared to spend a good 20+ hours on it.
Or just go buy a best buy box... lol
Me personally, i would let them do all the cutting. Especially if you are new to box building. Only thing though, i would make sure they measure more than once. Even if you do it yourself, measure more than once. The guy at Home depot who cut the wood, done a GREAT job. I measured 3 or 4 times and he was right on the money. But maybe I got lucky. And for cutting the holes, i would use a rotozip. Oh and be sure not to cut a perfect 12 inch circle (assuming you are making a box for 12in woofer) make it like 11 1/8 or somewhere around in there. *i say this because me being dumb ending up cutting a 12in circle without thinking.would you recommend me trying to cut all the different sizes myself or just let the people at where ever i get it from do it for me. also how would i cut out the hole for the sub
