box pricing

Lol, he said $50 was too much? He's probably the type to use particle board or chip board, like 1/2" thick, and rattles to sh*t and says, "Yeah, that hits hard."

I run cheap subs, on a cheap amp in a LoneRanger (aka Donn) from GnomeAudio box and it hits harder than my friends 2 12's. His 12's are NOT in a good box, but he spent 140$ on each sub, and another $100 on the amp.

I run 1 12" and it's louder than almost anyone's system around me. And for those that can beat me.. I just switch from the eD K to the XXX and they start pissing their pants...

I don't need to show anyone up, but when the time comes, I know that I have the box to do it!

Thanks to LoneRanger //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Oh yeah.. and if it's your first time building.. and first time working with MDF, good luck.

I hope you have a second person to help you, and a really, really nice table saw...

Oh, and I hope you're VERY good with a drill, cause MDF doesn't like "wandering" screws and poorly pre-drilled holes either...

The moral of the story is, try it your first time, but try a sealed box. They are easy. If you want to go ported, buy plans for it, and be prepared to spend a good 20+ hours on it.

Or just go buy a best buy box... lol

what would be the better mdf to use 3/4" or 1". thanks alot for all your help
Depends. 3/4 MDF will get the job done. 1" will be heavier than the 3/4 but will require less bracing and will be easier to cut. So either is a win win situation, i just prefer 3/4 because of the less weight and a lil bit easier to work with than 1"

Loneranger says he builds them "whicked cheap" but really 50$ is the best price. Not 90$ as he priced for me a single 12". which i bought material to make my own today. it costs me 25$ lol.
--they are nice boxes but they are still have high prices--
If you think my prices are high, get a quote from a local shop //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Best buy...what a joke. This girl goes to my school works and best buy and she tried to convince me that its better to have the ports on top of the box. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif and she didnt know anything about tuning a box. She wanted a ported box, and i asked her what will it be tuned too. she gave me a blank stare and was like, its tuned to play rock and pop. I just shook my head and walked off //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

The best part is.. the new Q logic boxes have "adjustable porting"...

Basically.. you read their chart and cut the cardboard tube to the length that matches the hz you want it ported to on the box.

Unbelievable

would you recommend me trying to cut all the different sizes myself or just let the people at where ever i get it from do it for me. also how would i cut out the hole for the sub

Me personally, i would let them do all the cutting. Especially if you are new to box building. Only thing though, i would make sure they measure more than once. Even if you do it yourself, measure more than once. The guy at Home depot who cut the wood, done a GREAT job. I measured 3 or 4 times and he was right on the money. But maybe I got lucky. And for cutting the holes, i would use a rotozip. Oh and be sure not to cut a perfect 12 inch circle (assuming you are making a box for 12in woofer) make it like 11 1/8 or somewhere around in there. *i say this because me being dumb ending up cutting a 12in circle without thinking.

18.98, you overpaid.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Go for the blemish with a dinged corner.. my last one cost me $4.

building a ported box is easy if u get good plans and have the right tools...u don't need bracing (usually unless its an all-out SPL enclosure) my 3.6 cubes doesn't even flex move and is air tight and i don't have any bracing...go do it yourself...its fun and its cheaper...
