Hey guys, I am getting a box built for the 2 subs I mentioned above.

I am looking for SQ and it's going in the trunk.

What would be the correct frequency to tune to, keeping the car in mind(02 E39).?

The builder said he wants to tune to 38hz. I'm skeptical, please advice.

for SQ id go sealed. he will really like it. and for someone saying they want sq but want to tune so high i doubt he honestly knows what he is talking about period. go sealed he will like it...if not then id do 32--34hz...anything lower on a 10 is pointless IMO

Hmm, I thought so.

Thanks guys. Will go lower.

@Ryan - The subs are 600w RMS so they need 1200W. The subs will be wired to 1.5 ohms(They are dual 6). They will be powered by a Sundown 1000, so I think they'll see 400 each. How about 3 cudes at 30HZ?

why on earth would you actually tune a 10 that low? because it will struggle to play that low? cuz im sure that will sound awesome...

3 cubes before displacment at 30 will be fine...a big box, too little power and a low *** tuning should yeild great results
It is tough to recognize sarcasm when you have limited knowledge on a subject.

I appreciate your input bro, but I would appreciate it even more if you could express your opinion a little clear.

I'm using a 10"er with a higher fs than your GTi in a 1.5ft^3 at 28hz box...great overall response, and not annoying in the 40hz range like 90%+ of setups on here. Plays any kind of music and doesn't have a noticeable peak that ruins certain songs...good for sq, not good if you're looking to impress your friends with fart sounds.

Trully you have to take into consideration the fs of the jbl's,if your going for SQ i'd go sealed! If you go ported you'll pick up 3 db louder but your power handling below the tuning freq drops off drastically!

That's why you tune low when you can, 28-30hz. There's hardly any information that you won't pick up in 3ft^3 tuned to 28-30hz with these subs, unless you're listening to Bass I Love You or pipe organs. And a sealed box will give you drastically lower output in the 25-40hz range in this instance. It's not always a 3db difference(hardly ever, really, and of course depends on the frequency you're comparing). The discrepancy in output will get larger the lower you go in frequency(to a point). Depending on the subs, I can get 6-9db more in the 25-40hz area by going with a ported box.

With all the information processed, I've decided to go sealed for now. I'll listen to it for a month or 2 and then if I don't like it I'll go ported.

Thanks for all the help guys. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm installing everything myself, so I'll have pics and videos up soon. it's just a little tricky to get the audio signal to the amp for the E39 but learning is so much fun.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nerd.gif.c6fa51ddf7ff75f1c0371fbc648f70ae.gif
