Box for SE/SX Hybrid

Hey guys, sorry I have to ask this as a new thread, but I couldn't figure it out through searching. I bought a special RE sub about 2 months ago and have had it sitting in my room waiting for my new car. It is an SX with an SE coil in it. It didn't come with any parameters or power rating information, but the guy that sold me it said that it would take about 1,000 watts, so I'm planning on buying a Hifonics 1500 today. The car is a 95' talon tsi, so it has a good deal of hatch space. i would like some help figuring out the port size I'll need for the box. I know that I would like a ported enclosure, but would like to keep the tuning pretty low so that I get the deeeeep bass that carries forever. I was told at the stereo store that a 2 foot box tuned to 34hz would be awesome, but I think I want a bigger box, somewhere around 2.5-3 cubes and tuning closer to 28-29hz. I would be able to figure this out myself on WinISD, but since I have no idea on the specs, I can't put them into the program. Would it work to put in the specs for the SX and then make the port about the same as it would be for that sub, or does replacing the voice coil affect the tuning quite a bit? If it is possible, could you let me know the specs of the SX so I can go from there, otherwise, please help me figure out what the port size will need to be for this sub. Also, if anyone has any other suggestions, let me know. Thanks.

Yeah, its a 12, sorry bout that, I spaced. And as for the point of the SX with an SE coil, I really don't know. When he explained it, I thought he was making an SE with SX power handling, so it would be SQ, but much louder than a regular SE. It turned out it was an SX motor with an SE coil. I really don't know the specifics, but the reason was because an SX was about $40 dollars more than my dad would spend, and the SE was too little power (couldn't get two of them), so I ended up getting this. I just looked at WinISD, however and it looks like the tuning really is more dependent on the box. I experimented with the JL W7, JL W6, and MTX thunder 8000, which are supposedly about the same performance level as my sub. After hearing a W7 in person at Best Buy, I sure hope this is true, cause ****! That thing was LOUD! Anyways, I found out that I have 4.25 cubes to work with - 34" wide, 18" deep, and 12" high. Do you think 4.25 is too big a box for this sub and that power? it would be about 3.8 after sub and port displacement, right?

Only 2.5 cubes??? Will that still produce about the most volume this sub will put out? I thought a sub like this could use a big *** box like 4 cubes??? I really want this bass to be able to carry...

Yeah, its 2004 and you're right again, it does decrease power from the SX. What I wanted was more power than the SE, so taking power away from the SX is in essence the same thing...

well, if it has a SE coil, the thermal rating will be the same as the SE //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

That depends on the spider configuration, do you know it?

Like I said you cant go wrong with 2.5^3's, account for port and driver displacement and use 2.5 of free-firing space for it.

Hmm... Thats not good. All I know is that the guy knows his stuff, is the local RE dealer, and assured me that it could take 1000 watts rms... I hope to god he was right, because I am for sure sending it that much. And what do you think about the box size? I can do any size up to 4 cubes, and would like whatever is going to create the loudest and deepest bass.

I don't know what you mean by spider configuration, but it is a thin, black, silky material that you can kind of see through. It only has one layer.
maybe youcan post the dealer you purchased it from and David can give some info on this particular driver since he more than likely built it.
