hey, nice looking boxes man!! question for you on the rounding of the port edges, does this effect the flow of air? Im guessing yes but not sure, most of the boxes Ive seen and or built always have the 90 degree edges on them, also would it be beneficial to round the outside edges of the port as well? where it comes through the front of the box? thanks for your help and pics---Dinty

And my technique is similar to his, except that I don't have a router table and hate using rabbet bits free hand, so why I do is put my saw fence like as close to the blade as possible without hitting it, set the depth to like 1/8 or 1/4 (eyeball it), and run each side along the fence so that it "rabbets" the sides. The only problem with this is when you have a ported box, you either have to use a .75 x height stick on the port side so that you can still tuck in the carpet, or, you can do what they do and run your straight bit 3/4" from the edge.

This is really the first time i have tried it. So i dont know yet. lol Ill let you know?

Rounding the port doesn't make much difference, but neither does waxing your car every 2 days, but I do it anyway. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ok, just curious, as I dont see too many boxes with rounded ports, but I figured if there was a big difference in sound a lot of people would be doing it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Not saying I gauge my builds by what the current trend is but its just an observation

Yea lemme know how it turns out, I always wanted to take my max's and make 2 boxes, one with right angle edges and one with rounded edges to see if there was a difference, maybe not in dB per say, but just in the overall sound

What do you mean ummmmm lol. Unless you're building a labyrinth style port, it won't give you sound improvement to the ear, unless you've got next to no port area, in which case a .5" roundover isn't going to help. I'm not hating lol, I do it myself, but it's not like someone's going to know the difference unless you tell them.

And most importantly, when people see that you have done it and know that it isn't necessary, they know you give attention to the finer details. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
