box for magnum d2

Alright, I finally decided on buying a magnum d2, even though they are on backorder. In the meantime, I want to build a box.

The sub will be powered by a Kicker 600.1 amp, which will put out slightly over 400 watts RMS at 4 ohms (will get a more powerful amp later). The sub will be placed in the trunk of a Honda Civic.

I don't know wether I should go ported or sealed. I want to go ported, because I want low end, but I don't want to have to sacrifice alot of SQ. Will it still have awesome SQ ported?

If you have heard the magnum in a sealed and ported box, could you give me your impressions and opinions?

I've heard it both ways...

Sealed the SQ is second to none. Rear-firing in a trunk the low-end is good, it comes out pretty flat to 20Hz or so.

Ported the SQ is still pretty darn good. Of course not as good as a sealed Magnum... but still tops many average drivers in their sealed alignments SQ wise. The massive gain in SPL and the huge low-end boost are enough reason for most people to go this route.

Whats subs have you heard? In what box? And did you like them. This can give us an idea of your listening preferences.

I just finished building and installing my Magnum D2 in a ported box. SQ is still phenominal. You will not be disappointed. The SPL with this is shocking to people. They cant believe its a single 12. I do have a bit larger amp. I'm running a HiFonics 1000w.

I had it in a 1.2 cube sealed box and the SQ was outstanding. After awhile I wanted more SPL from it so now it's in a 2 cube box @ 29Hz and even though I think I lost just a touch of SQ it still sounds amazing and has a great SQ/SPL mix running off of a Tsunami 1100. Either way you go is a matter of preference but ported or sealed it's a great sub. I'd have to say it's one of the few things I've bought for car audio I wasn't disappointed in.
