im building a box for my alpine 1243d type rs the speakers require .65 to 1.25 i have 4.2 cubic feet of room that i want to take up behind my pickup seat so i was thinking of putting 6x9s in with the subs sealed off from the subs of course lol was just wondering if any one has done this. i know the biggest risk would be a bad seal and all the pressure going into the chambers witht he 6x9s. just wondering if 6x9s have a optimal box size like subs do.

any advise would be great thanks guys

oh and the req cubic feet for subs if i go over that would it hurt the sound? im sure the requirments are posted by the company for a reason but thought i would ask

a larger box will usually improve volume at lower frequencies but reduce sq greatly. the volume increase would be nominal, not reccommended....as for the 6x9s butting them in the same box even sealed off would not be a great idea, the midwoofers would pick up all the vobration from the sub and it could potentially beat the hell out of them and also cause them to become "tired" and sound horrible. what you can do is get more sheets of mdf and just center the box and build a small frame to cover it and take it all up then put 6x9 boxes on top pointing forward...this would be ideal because the higher you place tweeters and midranges the better and louder they sound since they are directional speakers. if they are high up and mounted facing the front aimed at your head itll be nice and loud.

ok thanks for the advice i wont be putting my 6x9s in the box. as far as size of the box for the subs what should i go with at the max or in the middle of the recommendation

hmm, i personally wouldn't put any speaker right next to my head..... sounds like poo, and loud poo off that one speaker...... also, my personal opinion is that the shape of the box leaves the separation baffles skinny enough not to flex enough to negatively effect the 6x9's the 6x9's in question and power level will decide what size chambers will sound decent/tight, and i would use poly for better sq anyways. as for the type-r's go for the larger size. have you thought about porting them, too? you could go 1.5 net internal vented each, which would take up about 4cu.....

not literally nxt to. but a lot of cars like mine that have the fronts down in the bottom of the doors firing into the kicker panels have that design flaw, aiming a full rang speaker anywhere but near the upper front of the cabin is counterproductive.
