Box design problem, help!

Hey there! Straight to the point, I'm trying to design a box for my '13 Malibu, the problem lies with the box height. I have 29" for Depth, 25" for width, but the height is not even enough for the sub because there's a weird part in the middle of the trunk ( 8" wide and 3" tall) making the height only 15". Now, This means the sub cannot be fired facing front or back. If it wasn't for this weird part I'd have 18" which is what I had in mind for maximum height. I've calculated some dimensions for a 5.2 Cu.Ft box (without subtracting the displacment for the sub and the port), but the height will always be 15" or less fording me to mount the sub firing upwards. Will this make a problem for the output? Any thoughts?
