I have always wondered that also. Do these modern curved ports help with the performance, or just strictly cosmetic??

Also are those curved ports made with just a bunch of little pieces with small angles cut on them?

Its a kerfed port which reduces port noise and may give some gains.

About the kerfs Fish, Do you have a kerf scale that you've come up with? Willing to share?

Yea, I would say the flared port could eliminate a little possible port noise, sort of like a precision port.

For the actually kerfing, I had found a thread on another forum that had a bunch of spacings/number of cuts combos for different radius'. That thread is now deleted however, but the most common one I use is 10 cuts, moving the fence 1/2" at a time, giving me a 3 1/2" outer radius.

That might be why I can't find it. Thanks for the tip.

In order to answer your question, I would need to know what model (e.g. SW4200, SW7524DVC). Also, are you looking to make a ported box or sealed?
