Actually, that's not true. The small chamber in front of the subs will pressurize and it will drive that column of air in the curved front panel that is .75" thick. The resonance point will probably be so high that it won't affect the performance of the subs as the front chamber will be below resonance and the chamber will unload. It has nothing to do with the "air movement" (which is just the transfer of pressure from one place to another and these waves of pressure leave the speaker in all directions, including to every corner of the inner chamber).the wood doesn't interfere with air movement.. if it did then sure
EDIT: After playing with some numbers, the front chamber is probably tuned over 200hz which means it will not be affective in the sub's passband but that won't stop the enclosure from acting like a 4th order bandpass at higher frequencies.
