just finalized the purchase of a 98 eddie bauer explorer, hopefully its not an egay lemon //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

has low miles and is from a dealership with 300 positive feedbacks, mostly on car sales, so i think ill be ok. heres the link to it.

anyway, im planning on taking the system out of my ***** am to put in there. only thing im changing is building a new ported box, subs up, port back, and possibly buying a pair of 15's to port. do you guys with explorers keep sub up port back boxes all the way up against the backs of the back seats? how do you secure the box so it doesnt slide around or come forward in a crash?

thinking about a pair of tc3000 or audioque hd3 15's, would my crossfire vr2000d be a good match for those, or would i be likely to get better results pushing a pair of rl-p 15's to their limit?

I have 4 15's firing up in my expedition but my box is not ported. The subs slam but the roof and rear hatch rattle like crazy.I think if i were running 2 subs i would have fired them toward the rear with the box up against the back seat.

I had an Explorer with two 15's with the port and subs facing the rear and box pushed all the way back. They hit harder than when I faced them up, but the rear hatch rattled really bad. I didn't secure the box but maybe you could screw it to the wheels wells.

yeah, but im not planning to compete or get all crazy, and want to keep my visibilty //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

i have restricted myself to 2 15's lol. may just keep the 12's if the new box sounds nice enough. probably have someone on here do the design for me once i decide on port/sub positions.

sure, but i dont know if i could handle (or need) 2 18's for daily. my 12's (not the loudest 12's either) got almost unbearably loud (for my tastes) in my firebird.

would like to have some cargo room left too.

It seems like you are very concerned about the reliability of your truck.A good friend of mine had one and he had alot of problems with it.He bought the truck(suv) with low miles and done all the maintanance like he should have.but he started having some problems with the rear end, front suspension, brakes, and the *****.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif But luckily he did not have any problems with it until about 280,000 miles:laugh: He got rid of it with about 289,000 and still never had any engine problems. They are built Ford Tough bro, dont worry about it.I think he had 2 10"Fosgates in his and it sounded really good.(firing backwards)

yeah i want reliable for sure. my old daily driver is a hopped up 87 ***** am, needless to say its not the most reliable thing, always having to rush work on it so its ready for me to drive to work. probably going to leave that thing uninsured and spend a lot of time on it this winter.

needs completely rewired //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif (engine/computer wiring)

I am sure that it will be more reliable than the TA.and with the explorer your possibilities with audio are almost endless.you can put 2 15's in there and still have plenty of cargo room.or you could put a big box with more subs and just make it so you can remove it fairly easy with the right tools just in case you want to haul something.just dont forget to spend money on a security system.

exploder eh? problems with it?
Transmission went out, AC went out, Gas guzzler, and there was a popping noise when I turned the wheel. But maybe you lucked out. I know explorers have alot of problems after about 100,000 miles. Just take extra care of it and you should be alright. But your engine will last forever.
