Bought 2 RE audio 18 SX's....... and....

I really enjoyed watching the video that was trying to prove that too small of a fuse on the amp would cause thermal issues with the subwoofers.

My favorite part was when the narrator said "future shop is not use to dealing with externally fused amps, or internally fused amps, so this is something new to them". Uhm... what?

The g/f insisting them putting the fuse under the hood was stupid made me lol too.

Thanks for the laughs.

Most of the eclipse HU's that are 8v has internal amps. Only the 7200 and a handful of a lot older models don't have them. You will be fine with 4, 5, or 8v preouts.
Also you said you moved the fuse to right next to the amp. the fuse should be 6" from the battery. So if the amp is connected to your back battery then the fuse should be withing 6" of the back battery. Also did you put two fuses, one 6" from each battery, on the positive wire connecting each battery?
yes, as seen in the video there are now 2 fuses in the system, and the 250 amp fuse is right beside the back battery, maybe a little over 6 inches away.

I am about to post a new video about gain adjustment for newbies like myself, the fuse can be eaisly seen in that video.

That is great news they have internal amps, the store i called up here said they did not.

I guess they had no idea what they where talking about lol. I think i am going to go strait with an 8v pre-out so i never have to upgrade again.

your an arogent ****ole but thats ok, you know more than people good for you.

go stamp a gold star on your fridge, douche bag. The fuse is smaller than what the amp requires, they messed up there, and they are not used to dealing with amplifiers that have internal fuses or extrnal fuses that are not connected to the side of the amps, they are used to installing their cookie cutter brand name crap. That is what i meant, so quit trying to make yourself look big and smart over some minute detail like that, Epic fail. Go and get a new writer to try and help you come up with a new witty remark to come back with.

So go think of some more intilectual ways to put down 2 kids trying to learn about car audio then ******** some more, because oviously it is your way of getting off.

And yeah, my GF isnt very technical with cars, just like most women, atleast the ones that are attractive so stfu and go find somthing better to do with your time than waste all of our time and throw this post off track by trying to make some smart alick remark and think you are coolio, your lame. That was G#y, now move along please and get out of this thread so we can actually continue to make progress as i have learned alot from the nice people in thease forums willing to help new people.

Not arogent stuck up self absored douche bags like yourself who think everybody else sucks just because they dont know everything about car audio. Again, Thanks alot for the help again snfsh, and the tips aswell. The fuse in the back will likely have to be moved closer if it is a big issue to have it a little further away than 6 inches, but the one up front is deffinatly 6 inches away from the batt.

I am so glad that i finally have the system preforming relativly well, and pounding very hard without any over-heating issues. Now to just improve apon it. I cant decide what to go for first, The FI BTL's or a new head-unit, or another alternator, or a new top to my enclosure that would extend the cubic feet.

I think i will get the BTL's out of the way, as everything else will cost less and be easyer to obtain, the cash return from my taxes is paying for the BTL's. I will get D2's and run a hifonics brutus to each one at 1ohm.

But before that, I will grab a new head-unit that can propperly handle 2 large amplifiers like that, and also beef up my electrical system before dropping all the new gear in. I am very glad i have learned thease certain things like setting gain right, and all of the other great things i have learned to help me down the road.

I want to thank everybody who has taken the time to help me figure this out and trouble shoot it because it was worth it and has made me very happy to see my birthday presants finally working.

So guys, lets figure out what head-unit i should get. Are eclipse model head-units good ? i just said that brand because it seems to be the only local brand that is over 5v. I can always order off the internet, because i will be ordering another hifonics brutus 20006di. It is not like i dont order from the net, i just dont like to hehe.

Anyways, This install is about to be taken to the next level and i would love your guys's help, So everybody please start giving me opinions on what head-unit would be best to upgrade to with all of the above said.

Thanks guys !

P.S can somebody please answer my quesiton about the RCA cable issue ? thanks guys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Too bad you fail to see the humor in your situation, or that you are too afraid to laugh at yourself. I would guess that to anyone as insecure as you, everyone else is an arrogant *******.

you did good setting the gain on the amp with the dmm.I watched the vid.

had to cringe a little tho when you were pushing down on one sub.

thats a no no.

Thanks for that tip corvette, yeah i didnt want to do it but ive been over paranoid that the voice coils got fryed or somthing in the sealed box, i wont do it again BAD ANDREW ! lol

hear is a more therough video of myself re-setting the gain, i went ahead and made a tutorial video for anybody else who comes along and is new at this and needs to learn how to adjust gain.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfwbMNgASgU

let me know what you guys think, or if this is the one you watched. But i dont think it is, as this one is new //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif It is deffinatly vital to make sure it is set in the right spot and i tottaly get it know, it has made a huge differance in system preformance. Now its just time to bring in the more heavy duty woofers, another amp, alternator and the top of my enclosure re-designed to make it larger, and add the adiquite porting space. Thanks to you all for helping me learn this much, i never thought i would get this far At first this seemed so techincal setting gain wtih a metre, now i am making tutorials of it for other newbies //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i hope i can help out people just like you have all helped me, with a couple people as exeptions.

Thanks again corvette, and since that is a no-no how can i tell if my woofers are messed up at all what are good ways of checking for damage on the coils ?

again, i know this might sound stupid but i feel as if they where possibly damaged and are unable to get the full exursion they can get. But this is just newbie paranoia oviously. So thank you for telling me that is a no no //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif hehe.

Anyways, will be back with more video once this install continues witch should be very soon gotta keep things moving //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I just want to start by saying i would have tried to help you but you seem helpless.

this is just flat out funny. not only do you know nothing about car audio you dont know anything about your car. and it seems like your installer is just as clueless as you are if not more so.

but watching you try to set your gain LOL! you turn the nob while your girl tells you when your close hahahaha very funny. fyi its easier to do by your self. just screw the dmm into the amp terminals next time.

your installer needs to go kill himself to btw future shop is not a car audio installer in the first place so why would you take your car there?

your box builder is good tho. just let him do the install. anyone that can build a solid box surly can hook up a few wires.

or you need to read. doing installs is not hard if you know what your doing. its actually VERY easy especially if all the wires are ran and all you need to do is plug and play and set the gain.

i could keep going but this is just to easy theres so much fail in your install and your videos its almost not even funny, but it is, very funny.

o btw just a tip, the rear seat just snaps back into place its not screwed down hahahahaha. you just gotta line up the little metal things that come down from the seat into these little slats in the floor of your car.

EDIT: nice crops tho!

Oh btw, i guess futureshop is even more retarded than i thought if they cant even clip a seat back in hell it doesnt even involve bolts and they cant get it right.

Also, my system is no longer over-heating and preforming extremely well, so i have been helped and im learning alot, get alife and move along.

thank you. you epiclly fail, almost harder than the last guy. lol you first try to defend futurehsop by saying im the retard for not knowing how to screw in a back seat, BUT it just requires clip-in's so all you basicly did was point out how MORE retarded they where by not even being able to do that. Jelousy will make people do stupid things, and BTW go find a hot GF that will help you install your system, be into it and pay for parts of it and help you build it up like mine, oh wait thats your right hand, because it also takes your wallet out of your pocket and dispences the cash or cards, looser. Yeah my GF and me working together, ohhhhhhh so gay. darn dude you are what 12 ?

Please stop trying to de-rail this thread as it has become an informative thread for me and possibly other RE audio purchasers or new people to car audio in general.

You dont like the thread, stay the hell out theres no room for your immature crap in here, how old are you guys anyways ? Jeez, stop hating and being jelous get a better paying job and buy better cars and bigger systems stop hating just because i can do it and you cant and you feel bitter because u know more than me, grow up.

Ohyeah and to the first douchebag, i wasnt saying the fuse was causing overheating, Again trying to stir up shit over words that are being put in my mouth, i said the fuse might be limiting the amplifiers ability to put out its true power, thus causing me to have to crank the gain up so much, witch causes clipping, WITCH CAUSES OVER HEATING. get the hell out of this thread, and go burry your face in the sand.

seriously though, the system is hammering and hitting over 130db without overheating. I am able to drive with it blasting return home open the trunk a bit nervous still, lol and find them cold to the touch every time. Its a beautiful thing.

Now i am going to get 2 FI BTL 18''s made for SPL, and the voice coil configuration will be d2's, i will be adding another hifonics brutus in the back, raising the box 7 inches, porting it to 29hz & powering each sub individually with its own brutus 2006di

Also to accomodate the extra pre out amprage from my head-unit that will be required i am going to get a 8v head-unit as soon as possible.

Does anybody have any sugestions for a good head unit that isnt going to bank-rupt me and can put out 8v ?

Also i will be adding another kinetik HC 2000 to the trunk for the 2nd hifonics amplifier. This thing is going to be a murderer in competitions by the time i am done with it.

I feel like a sponge learning all this information and figureing the issues out and resolving the over-heating gave me a big boost of confidence.

I will be making the new top of the box likely myself, and also installing the 2nd amplifier myself and head unit, slowly but surely i will learn how to install myself.

If you had half a clue, you'd know how stupid that entire theory sounds. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif And apparently no amount of people here telling you otherwise will ever get that thru your tiny, thick skull.

not that i read all of that but yes future shop blows, and you got me back GOOD. Glad you can take a little criticism. o and i am totally jealous of your gf and her willingness to help you (plus she dosnt look half bad either //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ). I haven't had a girlfriend like that ever. i wasnt trying to make fun of your gf helping you just the method you used to set the gain.

btw i like you choice of subs. i used to run 12" sx's and now run a 15" btl, what a coincidence.

o and what you said about clipping and the small fuse is incorrect. the fuse simply is a safety mechanism so that if your power wire shorts you wont start a fire in your car.

However, your amp has no fuses on the chassis so the fuse should be matched with the amp to protect the amp as well but using a smaller fuse wont hurt anything except the fuse (it may blow). using too large of a fuse can cause a curcuit within the amp to blow if you are trying to extract more power than it was made to produce (cant happen if the fuse is of proper size or smaller)

Hey guys, here is a picture of my box with the lifted top, please let me know if i did the specs propperly, also 2 FI BTL's will be .52 cubic feet of space removed from the box, Also with porting witch i have not added into the box design yet that will remove from it aswell. (lets not forget bracing either) hehe

anyways, the SX's are a tiny bit smaller than the FI BTL's so they will take up even less space, but thease dimensions in the new picture and specs are what my new box is going to be.

Please feel free to add opinions for port specs ! looking for around 29hz.

Thanks guys, Im very exited to keep this thing growing and getting better !

Hopefully the SX's sell when i take them out of the car then i can raise some money for the install of the new BTL's and the new hifonics amplifier //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

thanks guys for all of your help and support, i will deffinatly keep you all up to date as this progresses.

Again guys, head-units, what type should i get that can do 8v and wont hurt my wallet to bad ?

Thanks !
