Why not just take the $500 total for speakers and get 1 really nice set of comps for the front and not even worry about running rears? It's a Vette... no back seats. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Yeah, and I have thought about that, but I listen to so many different types of music that having those rear speakers when I am listening to rock, metal, symphonic or country music comes in nice for the additional stereo sound coming from back there. I had a 300zx a few years back(also a 2 seater) and I had rear speakers in that also with my sub back there and it sounded great. But, does a REALLY REALLY good set of components make up the difference in the stereo sound?

I listen to those daily in the 6.5's and they are the best i have ever heard but mine are in deadened doors and i have heard pro50s in my brother's car but in his undeadened doors FTL but they also sound excellent just not as good as mine but they are both great sets.

Well I plan on using the Dynamat xtreme door kit for my doors, would that be enough to get m y doors done in the Vette?

So what you are saying is that no matter if I go with the MB's or the BA's it is a win-win situation? My last set of door speakers in my last car were Kenwood Dualmags, so will I hear a huge difference between those and either of these new sets?

Oh most definitely you will be very pleased either way they are both great sets and if you deaden your doors you will be happy. It will so over preform those kenwoods... i am sure you will be pleased.

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: That's my opinion. For a smaller cabin vehicle, I always recommend that people allocate their speaker budgets to the fronts and give themselves time to get used to it whilst tinkering and tuning. Proper amping and sound deadening will make a world of difference. I've read quite a few posts from people with larger vehicles like an Explorer that only have good front comps and a substage and that in itself blows away the multi-full range speaker setups they had. If it's still lacking to you after a couple/few months, then throw a set of coaxs in the back.

Cool. Well my plan is to go to a few of my local retailers this weekend to see what they will charge to do the install on everything and their prices compared to the online prices and how much dynamat they think I will need.

What about amps? I currently have a Directed and Concept amp that work great and I can use to push the speakers we were just talking about and my 12. I was also considering ditching those and getting one of the newer Alpine 300watt amps for the door and rear speakers and a Alpine 400watt amp for the sub. I also want to add the Panasonic CQ-C8405U or 8513 as my head unit.

Good point. I guess I cold start with just doing the doors and if I want to add rears I can always go back and add them later. Thanks for that suggestion, it is some good food for thought!

See if they can fab something up so you can get 6.5 comps up front. That will make a bit of a difference over 5.25 comps.

As for the amps you have, it depends on what speakers you go with and if the amps are capable of providing those speakers with enough clean power.

The only problem with them fabing something up in this car is that the speakers are down near my feet and not on the doors, so it might be pretty hard in this case. The newer vettes have the speakers on the door but not my body style. My plan was to have th 5.25 put where they are supposed to be and the tweeter mounted near the part of the door that is by the side mirrors.

do u have any pics of that by any chance?Joe
You mean pics of the way the speakers are set up in the front of my car? No. I just got the car on Saturday and have not had the chance to do that, or much of anything yet. I am hoping to get a bunch of pics taken of the car(interior and exterior) this weekend.

I was also just thinking, with the speakers being near the foot panel, I may not have to dynamat the doors then, right? All I will need is to dynamat the trunk?

If the speakers are physically in the doors, then deadening would be recommended.

Well from what I have been told, on the '96 Vette the front speakers are in the foot panel and not the door, so I am thinking I may not need to deaden it then. Thoughts? Of course if they were put in the door I would do it, but I don't see speakers in the door at all on this car. The only speakers that I would have on the door would be the tweeters placed up near the side view mirrors, and I doubt I would need to deaden an entire door for a tweeter.
