I never knew about this brand before I joined these forums but they've got my attention. I'm looking to buy

(4) 6x8/5x7 speakers for my mercury cougar

and after doing some research, I'm finding a lot of good feedback. Is it worth looking into or is it just the name that sells? Recommendations either way would be nice. I would like to put a $200-$250 spending range on it. I plan to Amplify them too so some AMP suggestions would be nice for the same price range. Any help is greatly appreciated I've been searching for months for the perfect set up now

Like Rusty Armadillo said, comps. I have a set of Pro 60's in the front door locations. The factory location, formerly held 5x7's. You just have to make an adapter plate of 1/4" birch, and install the 5 1/4's of 6 1/2's. Far better quality, and they should be under $300 on Ebay. Even the SR 50's, or SR 60's should sound great. Boston makes plate speakers, but go with the better component option.

I hesitate on the idea of adapters and I'm not to enthusiastic on getting the tweeters drilled in if i get a comp set all for the reasons of additional time and money. Is the difference that noteworthy? At the moment, I don't have any major plans on get a full sound spectrum. A B+ Midrange set up will do me fine [no subs/no tweeters]. Anything is better then the garbage I have in now from the factory.

You can get a set of the Boston SR 80's. They are a direct drop in for 5x7 openings, and still a round speaker w/tweeter. Way better than factory, yet fits in a factory opening, with no modification.

BTW, what do mean by "getting the tweeters drilled in"?

I'm very interested in your suggestion, sounds like everything I'm looking for and I plan to check it out after finishing this reply but i was interested with your question first.

I don't have a tweeter slot included on my car, correct me if i'm wrong but the only way you can put tweeters in is to create a hole/slot to insert them in.[drill]. ? i'm no pro but thats what i know.

Actually, you ARE wrong, sorry. You do NOT need to drill/cut a "hole" for a tweeter to be mounted. You can use a surface mount tweeter, OR, some component sets can be coaxially mounted (tweeter mounted in the center of the woofer).
However, the plate speakers I recommended earlier, will work for what your looking to do. I believe Jadon is selling a pair that are what I spoke of.

"S" is their value speaker. "SC" is their "performance standard". "SR" is high performance. "Pro Series" high performance standard, and finally "SPZ" reference standard. The SL, and SX lines are gone.
