Boston Acoustic 8.5 Box Size

I have a BA Pro Series 8.5 Sub. I am redesigning my enclosure, to fit my application better. BA recommends a 0.3ft3 sealed enclosure, which I have done in the past. Its good enough as a I am a SQ guy.

However I have some talk about the enclosure being too small. One guy recommended .5 and another 0.5 ported. I don't mind build a box or two, to test it out, but I don't feel like build 5 or 6 boxes either. Does anyone have any experience experimenting with BA .5 subs and larger boxes and what would I be gain be going to larger sealed box.
