plugs on the coolant system designed to release coolant from the engine if it starts to freeze. designed to keep the coolant/water from expanding and cracking your coolant system.
that's actually a common misnomer generally accepted as such due to the overused moniker, theyre actually called core plugs, meant to seal off the opening for the sand core that casts the water jacket to be expelled after casting and normally do not pop out in case of block freezing.

Much simpler explanation, they are plugs placed in manufacture to seal off coolant canal.

The autoparts stores identify them as freeze plugs or expansion plugs as the rubber in the inside expands to keep from blockage.

Finally running? You mean it wasn't or just been working on it? No center caps? (your like dam, was hoping no one would notice)
Yeah it was down due to the freeze plugs leaking, but got them all repaired by pulling the engine.
And yeah I took them all off. I hate the rims so bad I wanna get rid of them

That sounds like a huge task. How did the freeze plugs leak to begin with?

I think the rims look great....but gonna be differences in people I guess.

Over time on these older Chevy's or any vehicle in that matter start to rust and the freeze plugs rusting cause them to break and leak coolant, that is why they came out with brass plugs for these older Chevy's that are rust resistant.
It can happen on modern vehicles also, but it would take a hell of a lot of bad maintenance and use of pure water as coolant.

Also I'm a stock rim kind of guy so I rather paint a pair of stocks black then to use these spagetti tires.

Oh eye see...

**** if you were any closer, I'd trade ya tires/rims. My tires have a little wear but still have a lot of tread left. Spent 1k on tires alone, BF Goodrich. And still rockin' the stock rims.
