Booming through... the suburbs? Come on...

Not that I haven't been guilty of this at some late night or another way back when...

But I think now that I've been involved for a while, I am concerned when I hear about noise ordinances. Or maybe I'm just getting older, and I'm embarassed what the neighbors would think of me, or I just don't want the hassle of an argument with the authorities that I'd be in no position to win...

I don't know what it is...

But I have a house in an ultra-quiet suburban neighborhood (the street has a median, and I'm on the corner of a street that's only 1 block long). Sometimes I even forget to look while I'm backing out of my driveway, it's that quiet. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

But... still there's actually TWO kids in the neighborhood who drive through the neighborhood, loud as they can get. And it's **** annoying.

I can see why people complain, I want to go outside and stop him myself. Purchasing a pellet gun doesn't seem like a bad idea. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

And it's not even impressive... the car drives by, and you can hear as much buzzing of panels as you can bass. And it's not incidental with his music, he's just booming bass CD's, all the time. In a suburb.

Did I mention it was a teal 90 Escort? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Oh, the other one is a hand-me-down Cherokee.. similar story.

Now, I'm all about cruising... we live quite near Niagara Falls here... I used to go up to the Clifton Hill cruising spot, and try to blow OTHER people's windows out.

Hell, I don't find it inappropriate to strut your stuff down a main boulevard (and I do it quite regularly!)...

But I don't get it.. driving through a suburb? Who's he trying to impress?

Certainly not the police, certainly not the residents...

Am I becoming a stodgy old geezer... before I hit 30? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

You don't know what you've got, 'til it's gone....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I'm 21 and share the same views as you. Ignorance breeds idiocy. Since they aren't bothered by it, and haven't the foggiest idea to be greatful for where they are situated, it's my thought that they simply cannot percieve what it's like to not be 17. Main drag showing off is fine, as you stated. I do it on occasion, as I'm sure most do. If they weren't such shitty cars, a set of keys on paint send a nice message. :p

well i agree w/ you guys about the abnoxious noises in the suburbs. But i think by making fun of their cars is wrong. Maybe that's all their parents could afford? Or maybe they bought it w/ their own money. EVER THINK OF THAT? uck. Just a question for you guys, what car did you ****ing drive when you were 16/17. Did you pay for it? Im just sick of this shit

I'm 23 and feel the same way.....the only person you need to please with your system is yourself. There's no sense in blasting your system as loud as possible to look "cool". If you feel the need to impress others to support your fragile ego, you should be spending your money on a therapist, not on subwoofers.

I had two, two seat convertible for the summer, an Olds for the winter.

No offense...But it's rather offensive to your parents to play up like you can't afford a car so THEY pay for it, and then deck it all out with expensive goodies, isn't it? Rather taking advantage?

Why would you expect your parents buy you a car? Feelings of entitlement? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Just my perspective, of course... but it's larger, and a pet peeve to me.... there's been declines in societies related to feelings of entitlement, and spoiled children becoming boatanchors on a parent's checking account into their thirties... finally moving out... lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Of course I did...With money that was really, really hard to save for, working pretty close to minimum wage back then //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

And believe me, back then I wasn't driving around fronting like I was winning IASCA comps... these guys seem to have something they want to prove. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

And back then I wasn't putting the whole sport as we know it not only in a bad light from a PR perspective, but in jeopardy of being wiped out under noise constraints from complaints by people like myself who live in these suburban neighborhoods...

It's irresponsible all around, that's all. That was my point...

Hopefully some people read this and give such behavior a second though.

I'm not saying it's wrong anyway.... just wrong in certain places, particularly at night, outside people's bedrooms.

Seriously, if I wasn't an enthusiast myself, I may have called the cops on him myself. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif And in that light, I totally understand where these noise regulation laws end up coming from.

All it takes is one public gathering, proposing such a law... I wouldn't dare show up trying to defend the sport, I'd end up being hung on a burning cross... know what I mean?

Now, isn't it nicer to just try to not piss entire neighborhoods off?

I agree but I dont let it bother me. Just think about it if you let one or two kids blaring their systems for lets say at most 15 seconds then what else bothers you too? I just think that this forum is a little bit up tight when it comes to me bickering and people that say they want other cars to shake, because after they say that then the forum jumps on them for disturibing the peace. Also you are only 16 once and its just like when you got your first driver's license you want to go fast or the guy at the light keeps nudging up then you race, you only live once so make the best of it while your here. But hey what do I know I am only 15.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i'm 17, but hell my brothers done all the bumpin for me, shi* and i'm black live in a black neighborhood, and late at night, all you hear is bass, so around my neighborhood it's no big thing, but i do turn it down before i turn into my drive way so i won't bother my neighbors, but fu** the people that live down the street that i just passed:D

I look at it as pay back, besides i like ridin wt my music up loud, it kinda messages my back when i'm at a red light..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

hey bart...call eric tell him to turn those ragged-tiredass jl w3's down till he gets out of the neighborhood...he's baby's mamma lives around the corner //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif hahahaha...

I to hate it when people drive by my house (like 3 lil punk kids different races) blaring their lil 6.5's for all they're worth with maybe a tired punked out 10 in a sealed box distorting its *** off on the trunk with no sound deadener....awful sound...and it seams they always sit at the stop sign for an extended period and try their best to blast off, possibly just cause i'm outside and they are trying to "show off for me" its awful...my friends and I get a good laugh from most of them...sometimes is just a **** shame.

but hey....when you get in the commercial area...i'm all about LET IT RIP!!!...its no louder than the Pyle Driver whacking posts into the ground at 160db PING.....PING.....PING....PING.... or the rotation driller knocking that square bit into the ground at levels even ear plugs can't stop...or the FRIGGIN HARLEY NEXT TO YOU that even MY SOUND KILLER can't keep out of the truck ( and trust me..my truck is **** near silent on the inside) or the countless heavy rigs all over the place...or the factories clinkin metal together or the trains moving by or the AIRPORT LANDING, DOWN THE STREET!!!!.....I'll tell somebody to kiss my fuzzy butt in the commercial area if they wanna give me a look about my music...screw them... thats why its commercial zone...cause there is so much noise thats where its legal to make noise..

BUT HEY!!!!..... residential or suburbs... windows up...jammin.....they dont wanna hear it...i don't blame them....thats why they live in the suburbs...and thats why i live in the suburbs... when i get home...i don't wanna hear it either...

Do us all a favor and when you get out of commercial zone....shut it off , turn it down, roll windows up ...whatever... just chill...you get MUCH more respect from adults and the advanced users....

Peace, be bangin...pound mucho hella wang ........ but do it where its ok //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

That's not it at all.. they certainly aren't waiting until they are just in front of MY house then turning it up for 15 seconds...
I'm planted far enough into the suburbs that it's a few minutes of driving just to get to a street without stop signs, with stoplights and actual traffic...

So if they are blazing by at 140+dB, they've driven by a LOT of houses, disturbing a LOT of people, for a LONG time.

It's just a matter of consideration.

It's not very much different than if you took a Quad down the sidewalk and refused to either slow down or get out of anyone's way who was also on the sidewalk, as if you felt entitled to the sidewalk, that you owned it...

Pedestrians, couples out for a peaceful walk, mothers with children in strollers, schoolkids in bicycles.. just running over, slamming into, or knocking down anyone and anything in your way without a comment.

Is it really much different?

At any rate, I'm sure if you were driving anything - or even walking - down a sidewalk, you'd be considerate of people, giving oncoming traffic their side, generally being considerate.

I'm just hoping that people would want to show the same consideration for others, particularly during the evening hours.

If you don't consider the respect of those people, consider the respect of your fellow car audio enthusiasts... consider the possibility that your actions would otherwise do nothing but contribute to complaints, and potentially noise regulations, crackdowns, and other things that are bad for being an enthusiast in your area! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Just curious, what do you think of driving through residential areas during the day with a system going? When I finally get mine set up after 9 oclock I will keep it down at a decent level.

I cannot drive yet. But when I do now and I have it up it kind of gets old. Its alright but just all that vibration and movement and everything. Sometimes I get headaches.
