I have over 300 dvds, so even thinking about switching to blu-ray hurts my head. At least a good blu-ray player will upscale the dvd quality.......definetly will not re-buy the movies in blu-ray format.

if you're a home theater geek with a nice 7.1 surround system that supports HD audio, then go blu-ray. It's simply awesome. If you don't then you'd only be using blu-ray for HD picture...which is still good. But if you're on the fence about it, upscaling DVD players will probably be a cheaper alternative for you.

I dont have any home theater but I got 1080p 120hz Sony Bravia Z series HDTV

I cant really stand watching regular dvds anymore.. I love watching movies on bluray so much.. and I can tell the difference big time!

I CANNOT understand those who says "I dont see any difference between regular DVDs and Blu ray DVDs" I am like WTF!? lol

I have a 46inch 1080p Samusung. I forget its model number.

I have an upscaling DVD player, it lookds pretty good I think. Never tried bluray on it though.

Is there a neither option?
Blu-Ray will get its *** kicked by streaming movies. $10 a month from netflix and unlimited streaming with Full HD quality? Game Over.
streaming movies isnt going to take off until the US catches up with other countries with internet speeds and that isnt going to happen for a long time

much of the country does not have good enough internet speeds to stream full 1080p media with full uncompressed DTS/DD sound not to mention the computer hardware needed to play it properly

I dont think streaming will take the marketshare from DVD due to the fact you dont actually own the movie.

And downloading to harddrive doesnt count. You would need an immense harddrive much bigger than anything on the market to store the DVD/Bluray collections some people have.

not when Time Warner puts there nice little cap on the Megabyte usage. and you end up paying $150 a month for internet usage.

X2 they are already cracking down on illegal downloading and the streaming stuff most people dont have the ability or the internet speed to do HD content. At least not full 1080I or P. Not to mention 1440 is coming in another year or so.

Haha, people were saying this maybe over a year ago. This is simply not the case now. I'm not saying the PS3 is a bad player, but best choice for under 1000 bucks? Do some more current research plz.
dont worry i am "up to date" You show me a br player under 1k that has a better pq and decoding... And i didnt say it was the "best" i said with everything the ps3 can do , its the most capable ( video, games, updates, decoding, dts hd , true hd, pics media, usb etc ) Its the best deal you can get for under 1k...

Ive seen a $1800 pioneer player off a 7.1 setup that had been swapped with a ps3 , and run through a computer program to test the 2.. Want to know which one had better pq?? ps3 lol, the higher end ones have more options and are setup for a true HT setup, but failed against the ps3 in upscaling and pq.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif So yes.. i do, do my research

lol.. wrong.. 1440 ??? where the hell did you hear this from ? best buy? IF they jump to a new generation in the next year or so it would be a cinema hd which i think is 4096x2160 ( 99% doubtful , just due to BR being released , new LED's , the world is just now set up for 1080P! .. Thats like releasing ps4 one year after ps3 is released.. To much investment and not enough time for profit)

BUT .. thwe next "generation of HD , will IMO be in 10-15 years and its called Ultra HD, with a 7680 × 4320 resolution.. Now that is going to be beyond what anyone could imagine Not to mention being setup for 22.2 surround that makes lucas, and dts hd sound like fingers on a chalkboard..

Ill try to find an example , but try to search the 2 in comparison , and compare a 1080p image or movie clip, to a 4320 resolution.. its unreal how 1080p looks like static in comparison
