Ive switched to Blu Ray, if your into movies it's well worth it. i cant stand watching DVD's anymore. not only is the picture better the audio is way better too. if you have a 1080P TV id say switch. HDDVD's are dead dont bother

i wish I could switch over but I still have to many dvds. I have started to get blu rays instead of dvds but am not re buying stuff over it. The ps3 works fine for a player but I will get a stand alone at some point just to keep wear and tear off the ps3.

First off your ps3is probably your best choice for a player under $1000. It also upscales dvd very well. As far as wear a d tear in the ps3 LOL. That's not an issue, especially if it's a newer model ( newer than august 2008 ).

I use mine probably 10 hours a week since I don't watch much tv and it's great. Just buy the Sony remote

true the PS3 is the best all around Blu Ray player

it will also decode DTS-HD and Dolby Digtal True -HD

not bad for $400 when you include the gaming part, harddrive, plays from USB,etc

bargain Blu Ray player is $200ish, never used one

if you dont have an HD tv do not upgrade

the 2.35:1 ratio will make the picture seem tiny on a reguar 4:3 screen

My only real motivation for keeping dvd's is they are so much cheaper than blu rays.
price will come down slowly

ive seen blu rays on sale for $15

DVDs were expensive when they came out

also you are paying for larger storage on the disc and the many different audio/video upgrades on the disc

Good point

bluray is finally starting to catch on and prices are finally becoming reasonable

walmart has bluray players for under $200 now, and you can rent blurays for $1 a day at those "movie vending machines" i dont use it, but i also believe netflix rents blurays

im still waiting for bluray recorder drives and recordable blurays to become cheaper :S my dvd-rw drive in my laptop is broken, and supposedly the bluray discs are very scratch resistant

Haha, people were saying this maybe over a year ago. This is simply not the case now. I'm not saying the PS3 is a bad player, but best choice for under 1000 bucks? Do some more current research plz.

I dont think there is any machines that vends blu ray movies? unless I am wrong?

I have been using Redbox and they only have the regular DVDs

btw, I have completely switched to blu ray when it first came out.. Thank god I did not side with HD DVDs for some reason..

I have about 35 movies right now.. I am looking to buy many more but I just want to spend my money on something else until I am done with getting what I want then I will start on movies, also I usually wait until the movies I want become an older movie so the price would be much less than they were when new..

Is there a neither option?
Blu-Ray will get its *** kicked by streaming movies. $10 a month from netflix and unlimited streaming with Full HD quality? Game Over.
But you dont get to own the movie itself..

That is a big downside to me.

I, personally, like to own the movies and put them on my shelf which I can just watch at anytime even without the internet..

Also lets say when the movie becomes a collectible then I do have the blu ray dvd while you dont.. cuz netflix owns those movies
