I think the older movies don't look as good cause the publishing company didn't give a shit and doesn't put the effort in making it look good. Didn't do the compressing and codecs well. Just shoveled it out the door.

For example, The Nightmare Before Christmas on Blu-Ray is tier 1 material. It is a claymotion movie from the early and mid 90's. Age has nothing to do with quality.

the ones around here do
also another thing i see is people buy old movies on bluray and expect them to look good...

for example, like titanic from 1997 on bluray doesnt look that great... idk if its cause the movie wasnt filmed in HD or what.... but a recent movie like pineapple express on bluray looks amazing

so i guess that buying bluray versions of movies that were filmed pre-HD is a waste?
that would be all fine and dandy if Titanic was actually released on Blu Ray. but it's not yet.

Im sure Microsoft will release one hell of a next machine.
I just hope it atleast uses the blu ray format. Ofcorse a interchangeable internal hdd would be killer, but I dont see that happening. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
I doubt it because then Microsoft will have to pay Sony liscene fees and so on. I brought my PS3 for gaming, but the blu ray is a huge plus.

hmm, i definitely remember watching it in hd like a year or so ago... maybe it was hd dvd... whatever it was, it looked good in hd, but not nearly as good as recent movies

hahaha to the people who say you cant tell a diffrence between blu ray and dvd

thats like not being able to tell the diffrence between co-ax speakers driven by a head unit

and component speakers driven by an amp

I don't think anyone's saying that, what was said was that in order to see a difference, you have to have a TV capable of resolving the difference.
right, you gotta have the proper equipment...... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Indeed. And if it takes that long for a format to disappear in the face of DVD, which was a quantum leap from the capabilities of VHS, I don't see regular DVDs going anywhere soon. For a lot of people out there (like me), the HD format simply isn't going to provide anything useful for them.
However, I think people are more readily adopting newer technology at an accelerating rate. Hell, vinyl was king for a long time.

The period from vinyl to cassette > cassette to CD > CD to mp3 (for lack of a better term...digital maybe) > ...

I give vinyl a better chance going into the future than CDs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Then again, I can justify $3k on a turntable a heck of a lot more than I can on a TV.

I was speaking from a mainstream perspective.

I can't justify spending $3k on either one.

if you market it enough people will buy it

look at me, I said I didnt need an iphone yet I bought one

pay the $100+ per month for it and buy stuff from the app store

enough marketing made me think I needed it, so i bought it

If blu ray is glamorized enough and the price goes down to $100 everyone will get one

Apple could quadrulple its marketing efforts and I still have no need for one. Maybe if it was the same per month (the service) and the phone was free, I would.
