this is the third tweet ive popped! in a 3 month's span... same side, same tweet. 3 times...

im running Alpine REF X-Type comp's off a Rockford power 400-2

right now i pulled out both crossover's and i am replaceing the comp set with a brand new set...

before i put them back in a few questions..

1. dose it matter how far the crossover's are from the speaker set ( woofer & tweet?)

2. I left the setting's on the crossover the way they where from factory...

i have these setting's... right now it's on 0db

i have

0db

-1.5db

-3db

-6db..

should i adjust those?

3. what should i set my HPF to on the amp... 80hz? nothing lower then that?

please help

thanks

seth

have you been using the same XO each time you replace the tweet?
could be something on the XO blowing.

what happens when the tweet goes? does it just stop making noise? have you checked the coil on a DMM for continuity?
this being the third time i am replaceing everything the last two times i just replaced the tweet...

the first time the tweet went it just look dis formed.. but kinda still played music.. the sec time it went up in smoke.. this time it got disformed again and isent as loud..

the XO look fine....

sounds to me like its not the tweeter that is the problem... my guess is it is something on the XO, the amp, or the wiring... i wonder if something on the XO board is shorting out when it starts to get warm and sending the tweet more power than it is supposed to... could have a fried resistor on the board. are you overpowering the comps?

i used to have a set of super tweeters that i played down to 700Hz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

my gain on my 400x2 is not even half way up.. had my volume on my deck at 20-25 every time this happens...

im thinking it's the crossover...

One channel of your amplifier is putting out more power than the other channel.

I had this exact same thing happen to me, except with my active setup. Same tweeter blew 3 times...

All 2channels don't put out the EXACT same amount of power... put on a sine wave... and use ACv on your multimeter and I'd bet willing to be one channel is slightly higher than the other. Like my kickers.

Also, you're a fucking installer... do you know SHIT about car audio?

im getting the same reading out of my dvom on each channel.. at my 400x2

gain is set at 5, from a range of1-11

punch eq is off and all the way down

freq is set at 60hz

filter is on All Pass
