Is basically the only way to blow your sub is to let it distort and continue to play it at high volumes? I havea 450w amp and a 400watt sub, and on some songs it gets distorted at only about 30% volume, where other songs will go to 70% and sound fine. Not just distorting, on a couple of songs i hear kind of a popping sound, not clean bass, but where it sounds like the cone is popping or some crap.

There are several ways, Like this:

how high is your gain set?

Sounds like your gains are way off.

kivker sx 400.2 amp and the gain is set at 11db out of 12 and i have a 12'' cvr

maybe i need to lower the gain??? the low frequency slope is at 12db

There are two general ways to blow a sub, mechanically and thermally. Mechanically is bottoming out the voice coil or suspension. Thermally is simply applying too much power for the driver to dissipate, either rapidly as in a high powered burp or slowly as in degredation of the components and glues.

once they bottom out from a leaky box, or too much power or whatever, it doesnt take as much for them to bottom out the next time.....they sounded great but i had to let em go, and thats why
