Blood Pressure Help Anyone?

.... I went cause I haven't had a checkup in 3 years. It's not that I don't like his advice, it's that I heard bad things about blood pressure meds and doctors handing out medications for VARIOUS things like candy. Jeez

Holy christ that is some high blood pressure for a 22 year old. I would take the meds and lose the weight. once you get your weight under control then see if you can go off the meds.

Thanks for the advice. I went for a checkup 4 weeks ago and this was my follow up visit. I am taking it seriously, I'm just very busy and wanted other opinions. One of my friends is a RN and she said I should be fine but if it doesn't lower in a month go on meds. So I don't know what to do... Ugh I just never trusted meds
As for the EKG yeah i had one and obviously it was bad cause I had 170/110 at the time!! He told me to go on meds at that time and I chose not to and lowered my bp without them. But maybe I'm being stupid.
Just because your readings seem lower, this can be deceiving. You need to buy a proper monitor and check your BP several times a day. First thing in the morning, every few hours or so and before bed. Im suproised the doctor didnt send you home all taped up with a 24 hour monitor to watch all of your statistics over a 24 hour period.

Sooo.... you think your doctor doesn't know or doesn't care about how to help you.... soooo... why are you going?

Obviously your RN friend knows more than your doctor. Maybe you should go to her for health advice, or better yet... a car audio forum! Go there to look for opinions to validate your distrust in your physician! That'll work!

Why would he do that?

It is? For what?
it monitors the patients cardiovascular events continuously over a 24 hour period to be downloaded by the doctors staff for analysis of the previous 24 hours. It is not given in all ECG workups but in cases where there is reason to suspect that there could be cardi events happening with the patient that may not occur during the short in office ECG recording.

So you suspect that this guy has 'events' happening that aren't being recorded? Like what? What kind of events does this monitor record?

One thing is very certain, the best case scenario for the use of anti-hypertensive drugs, is when the cause of the symptom is the lack of the medication in the first place.

You're not going to die, dude. Your blood pressure likely has been elevated for a while, you're just learning of it now. Becoming distraught and anxious only makes it worse.

Take a relaxation or biofeedback class so you understand the power of self-control.

I dont suspect anything as i am not an MD and I don't know anything about his condition other than his relative risk factor based on his BMI and his BP numbers.

I know that in my particular case the doctor wanted to monitor the constant electrical activity of my heart as he suspected i had been having episodes of tachycardia leading up to my small heart attack. This is why he gave me a holter monitor as well as a automatic BP cuff.

Just an FYI, there's no indication whatsoever for a holter monitor in this guy. At least none we've been made aware of.

Perhaps.

But "a 24 hour holter monitor is NOT standard procedure in a proper ECG." Just wanted to correct that for you. Statements like that are part of why this kid doesn't trust his doctor and is full of misinformation about blood pressure medicine in general.

This is why you shouldn't seek medical advice here, kid. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Oh god I see this was a mistake. Some people are jumping on top of me for asking advice. Anyway I find this helpful, cause I've got a bunch of opinions. It's a car audio forum but this is the LOUNGE!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And no, high blood pressure doesn't run in my family. Only my grandma on my moms side has slightly had BP
