blew remote wire fuse.....

i have a 500ma glass tube type fuse on the remote wire of my head unit (from factory) my amp all of a sudden died and i thought it had just bit the dust so i got a new one. i hooked it up and it also didnt turn on. i used a DMM to test the power line and remote line i got close to 13 off the main power from battery and i got 0.01 off the remote line so i pulled my head unit and the fuse on the remote wire is blown. why would this of blown? what should i do before replacing the fuse? and is another 500ma a suitable replacement or should it be bigger? (idk if the previous owner of the head unit at some point replaced this fuse with an incorrect one)

with as little power as is going through that just cut out the fuse holder and splice the wires together, i have never know anyone to run a fuse on a rem wire

i was considering this, would it be safe? instead of blowing the fuse bc of whatever happened wouldnt it of hurt something in the head unit?

Put another fuse in there. It has a fuse for a reason. If it blew, it blew for a reason. If it worked prior to, it was prolly fused to the correct size.

Put the new one in, and see if it does it again. Vibration might have weakened an old small fuse. If it does it again, try using the remote wire to turn on a relay that activates the 12v signal to the amp.
