Blackbonnie's 05 Grand Prix GT Build Log

throw the oem grills on the mids to protect them and give it a stock look. Also i got engine whine in the speakers when i ran the speaker wire next to the power wire. I moved it and it went away. Might get some the way u have it ran just letting u know my experience.
Why did u switch from the cdt comps to the id's and vc's???

How much power were u giving the cdts and what set was it?
well if you do it right you dont get any whine, its all about your equipment and knowledge...

and i dont remember what set they were, whatever it says on the first page is what i had. i bought them off a member brand new, and installed them and i just didnt like the tweeters, they just werent bright enough for my taste. they were pretty laid back and the mids had sort of a muffled sound.

i wanted to run active and definately didnt want to do it with the cdt's. so i picked up the oem's (my 4th pair, and i certainly love them. amazing sound and great midbass) and then the tweeters were 40$ shipped and you cant beat that ecspecially with all the great reviews i have heard about them.

i dont regret the switch a bit. i have always looked up to the oem's and these tweeters definately suit my audible likings.

overall for the money, i dont think you can get a better active front stage then the oem's and vc100's

Very well put, I def miss my ID oem/VC100 combo. I still have the VCs, just sold the Oems. Very happy to see an update to this thread, looking great so far.

thanks man, its real tough for me to install my stuff. i work a ton, have a pregnant g/f, and hockey leagues dont help my schedule much. but i had a 3 day weekend and said im gettin shit done.

so next thing to tackle is deadning my doors, and then on to the substage //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

like the type of weather stripping that would go around your doors?
you think i should use that around the hole instead of putting grills on?
Not sure exactly what he was saying, but I think he meant using the grills still, but also putting the weather stripping between the panel and baffle.

I had the same problem with mine (grand am, so similar door), where I had the mid mounted and the grill on the door panel left it looking weird, as there was a big gap between the grill & mid, and I didn't like it. I ended up putting a double thick baffle (2x 3/4, so 1 1/2" total) to bring the mid out a bit more, held that in (without screwing the mid in, put the doorpanel on, then the grill, and used woodscrews through the grill to sandwich it all together and hold it all in place. So I had the screws going through the grill, door panel, mid, and into baffle. It sammiched the door panel and didn't leave me with a gap (pulled the panel closer to the door a bit, but not noticeable) and also helped deaden the door panel from rattling like shit.
