Bigger wiring=Less voltage drop?

^^

Okay so I have a 80amp alternator and right now I have 5 gauge wiring for my 1500w amp and big 3 is done in 4 (just what I could get at the time) and on continuous full tilt it would drop to 12.5 but everything off and it holds steady at 14.2

If I were to upgrade my wiring to 1/0 gauge then would I see less of a voltage drop?

Just asking because I have 50ft of 1/0 coming in tomorrow //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You need bigger wire either way.. Thinking of it from the sense of 5g wire (maybe smaller idk what brand it is) won't let enough current through to run an amp at 12v and 1500w.

Also you alternator is too small.. that is again, if you have a full 1500w. What kind of amp do you have?

If you don't use it, you'll lose it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

what "1500 watt" amp are you running
Mtx 1501d rated 750@4ohm 1500@2ohms

I modded it and it's currently wired @1ohm so actually around 2000.

Okay, so 2000w, lets say 90% efficient.. 2000/ 13.8 = 145 * 1.1 = 160amps.. Double your alternator.. Plus w/e your car needs ...

I'll prolly get rid of power steering and mount another alternator in its place, or just rig up a custom job, kinda hard to find a 200amp+ alternator for a little 4cyl honda lmao.

Anyways thanks to everyone who contributed in this thread.

I have mused doing that, but I like keeping my jalopies looking OEM. Now if I knew how to fiberglass like NSTALN, I would have done it long ago.

Back in the day there was some that went directly into the dash and then came out when powered on. Some of those were bigger then the size you are...

I sincerely appreciate the advice. I've made some changes to the design of my box and it's coming out to +8.99% larger than spec. I'll still be...
