I agree with icetee. If you are getting federal or state aid you should be required to attend. I don't want our tax money funding someone who doesn't care.

If you receive no aid, I don't think there should be an attendance policy. College is the time to learn to take on responsibility and accept the consequences.

i disagree with you and ice.

I don't think that two separate sets of rules should be set up. The poor kids should not have a different set of rules than the rich kids.

If a poor kid skips too much and fails classes, his/her aid will get cut off anyway. They give you one chance, but thats all.

most colleges have clauses for students recieving aid or on a scholarship, and they have a minimum GPA to meet. so things usually work themselves out.

why should there be attendance policy when the students who are going to make it 4 years are going to be the ones who attend class

look at it as a life lesson, and just plain common sense, were paying thousands of dollars every few months to get an education, and to do so, you go to class.

the people who dont want to learn and get an edumacation should fail out and not be dragged along by the school, its no ones responsibility except theirs.

really guys, this isnt high school anymore

exactly!

same reason why helmet and seatbelt laws are redundant. darwinism FTW

I dont agree with it and never have. Alot of schools(like SUNY Schools) have one, while some bigger schools dont.

My take on it is yes, you pay for it, why shouldnt you be able to skip class?

Some people can skip classes and still pass because they study hard. Nothing wrong with that.

And sometimes it can really hurt you. At our School, each class had 2-4 major exams. One of them was your attendance. YOu started out at 100 and it dropped 10 points ever class you missed. Whether they were excused or not. You know what that can do to your grade?

So if people want to skip all the time and fail out, let them do it, if you can handle it, same goes for you..

I like this.. keep it rollin. This was a big argument in my class the other day.

I just feel that it is our choice...for a lot of us are paying for our own college, and it is our decision to fail out or not. Its is now our responsibility. Our choice. We shouldnt be forced to go if we don't want to.

ESPECIALLY!!! when you are learning about sociology and you have a lesbian/feminist teacher, teaching from her own biased points of view.!

I am all for a non attendance policy because it removes disruption in the classroom.

I think should be instituted in high school as well. People ages 15-17 are the most underrepresented people in the country. The pay taxes, yet aren't allowed to vote.

When I'm president, if you pay taxes, then you should be allowed to vote. Otherwise, taxation without representation.

Yes because it is tax payer money going to waste. Most schools are public which are subsidized by the state. For every dollar I paid for class there was about $4 I didn't pay. Its more than the students money they are wasting when they do not go to class. And if they actually acted like adults then this wouldn't be an issue. Obviously there are a lot of college students that are not capable of acting liek an adult.

I am very against an attendance policy, but I don't get righteous and say it's because I'm an adult and have a choice. That is true, yes, but the real problem lies within how college is laid out in my opinion.

Most classes, from my experience and speaking with others, are largely based on independent learning. The material is presented, but with little-to-no extra content...often supplemented by the statement "there is more detail in the book if you're curious."

With that said, there are classes I've gone to, and those I haven't gone to during my college career. The ones where I feel the professor provides me with extra insight, I attend, where as those where the book does indeed provide more information...I don't. It's plain and simple...I don't need someone to spoon feed me information that can be had in a more relaxed setting while not losing anything.

Attendance policies are encouraged, IMO, by those who go to class all the time and still don't get it - getting out-performed by those who don't attend.

I did very well in college and am for these policies //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

I say no, I agree with most the comments about its really ur choice and they have ur money already. I don't ever goto math class, I really go only on test days and I usually get 85-97% on the tests. Which seems perfectly fine to me, since tests are 80% of the final grade anyways (15% final and 5% Homework). I'm passing the class with at least a B but the teacher is saying she might drop me because I dont show up. Which is completely retarded since I know all the material and I'm actually passing with a decent grade.
