Hell no they shouldn't have one. If I am paying for the class then it is my choice if I want to show up or not.

I voted yes... My college has an attendance policy, and as gay as that sounds, it makes me go to class and learn. If there weren't an attendance policy, I'd just sleep all the time.

So everyone else should have to go just because you're too irresponsible to show up?

Do you think, once you get to COLLEGE, there should still be an attendance policy. They already have you're money. Its your choice to go or not, or at least...IT SHOULD BE!
whats the point of paying if you are not even going to go?> that is really stupid

if people are so lazy to go, then drop out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

And btw, I have gone to almost every one of my classes this semester, despite having the attendance policy. With the exception of my 8am class, I have had 1 unexcused absence. I have stayed well within the limits of the attendance policy for my 8am class as well. So calling me irresponsible was quite the bitch move.

I was just saying most people have things they'd rather do than go to class, and having an attendance policy would help keep students where they belong- in the classroom.

I don't think the university should, but individual classes would make more sense. Lectures where the teacher posts em online..no, the lab where you have to apply the lecture, yes. Memorizing isn't learning.

The addition of attendance policies to some classes would help weed out the jack-offs that much quicker.

A lot of schools won't have them because higher fail out rates look bad. They'll just keep taking the kids' money and keeping their appeal to new students up.

Its the students choice to go to class or not, no one is going to hold their hand forever. You can either go to class and learn a little bit, or skip class, and most likely get your *** kicked by the exams. I've found out both ways. NO ATTENDANCE POLICY *That is for a blanket university attendance policy, if individual teachers want to, thats their right, but a blanket policy is stupid*

You don't just pay money and receive a degree...you have to actually pass the classes (i.e. tests and exams)...if someone can do that without having to actually attend class (i.e. independent study) then more power to them, that is their right.

You're wrong according to all the emails i keep getting.

i say yes, you are paying to get an education, not pay money get a degree and know nothing afterwards
i disagree, you are not paying to get an education, you are paying for the oppertunity to get an education. if you chose not to go, that is your own fault for wasting your parents or your own money. should the college have an attendance policy, no, but i think it is perfectly fine for a profesor to assign an attendance policy. after all, it is their ultimate decision as to whether you pass or fail, not the colleges...

Some of my classes are just writing down notes from a power point presentation that the teachers also post online....so why go to that class? Others I definitely feel I need to be there for every session.
I have 2 teachers this semester that do that. I hate it. And I have to go to one of the classes b/c she takes attendance and it counts for like 20% of our grade!
