Big 3 Wire question??

I have a 2002 nissan sentra gxe and when I tried to change the positive wire from the battery to the alternator the cable goes to the starter. Do I have to wire it to the starter first then to the alt or is it safe to wire it directly from the battery to the alternator??
Never remove any original wiring. You are adding wiring. Leave that factory wire where it is, and add wire directly from battery to alternator. Fuse it close to battery.

no leave the wire attached to the starter the way it is.

add an additional wire from battery + to the alternator charge post. make shure that the connection to the alternator does not accidently touch ground.

usualy it is pretty close to accidently touching the alternator casing with the copper lug attaching that wire - so be smart about it.

also use a fuze with in 12" of the attachment to battery +

see my picture of how i ran the extra wires. i used red wire for battery positive - and black wires for battery negative so ill never get confused about it.

also it may be hard to tell - but double sided 3m foam tape is holding my both of my fuze holders on top of my battery.

Thanks alot! And what about the stock ground? Do I replace it with the 0 gauge or leave it?

this picture is me showing the factory plug to my alternator - not important to you - but you can see how i used the dual wire holder thru one of the main bolts that hold my alternator in place. one black wire goes straight to frame ground - the other black wire goes over to battery negative.

this is the aluminum dual wire holder - avalable at all home depo in two packs for about $5 money well spent - and easily obtainable

Blackburn Type ADR 2-Conductor 1-Hole Mount Wire Connectors for #1/0 Stranded Max Wire (2-Pack)-ADR11-21-B2-5 at The Home Depot

edit - it is most likely you will have to make the mounting hole larger and slightly more to the edege than it comes stock - but that is easily done with a drill bit or dremel tool.

Wait I thought the big 3 were batt + to alt, batt - to chassis, and alt - to chassis I didnt knw I had to run a neg from the alt to the battery

Sorry to but in but that looks EXACTLY like my engine bay and i was wonder where did you ground your negative cable to? Not the alt negative but the other one?

Its + alt to + battery, Neg Battery to motor, motor to chassis.
I might have screwed up mine then. I did battery + to alt +, battery negative to chassis, and engine block to chassis/frame. From my research it seems there is more than one way.
