Big 3 alternative?

i told my car stereo installer about doing the BIG 3. He had not heard of the name, but new exactly about the upgraded wiring involved in it. he definitely recommended it. Although what he usually does is instead of replacing the stock wiring and putting in 0/1 gauge in the 3 areas, he just adds like 2 gauge, or 0/1 he said, to the existing stock wiring. So basically the stock wiring is still there, along with the extra upgraded wiring. He said by using 2 or 4 gauge to accompany the stock wiring it is like using 1 run of 0/1. He does this also because if their is any problems ever he said your car service mechanics can't say you cut original wiring for any warranty issues or whatever. It made sense to me, but what do you guys think about this. Does anyone do this?? Can you have two wires that both allow for current flow?? please help me on this matter.... thanks!!

there is nothing wrong with leaving the stock wiring also. In fact I recommend it. Power will always flow to the path of least resistance anyway.

thanks for reply...so current really doesn't flow through both wires? Just through the better and bigger wiring?? So it would flow through the 2g instead of the stock wiring? am I following you?

Well, if enough current is running through the (what used to be) least resistant path, it will start to also flow through the other as well if im thinking it through correctly (if the current flow is large enough to start to slightly heat up the least resistant wire, it'll eventually make the old, more resistant path now start to pick up some of the flow due to the increase in resistance from the other path's increase in heat)...i think i said that right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif...please point out anything stupid I might have said guys, haha

it is recommended to keep the stock. There's no decrease in performance for keeping the original wiring, it can only help to add more wiring. I'm glad I kept my stock because one of my big 3 runs actually ended up getting disconnected and if I had not had the stock wiring there then I would have been stranded.

I always leave the stock wires there also. Sell the car, then what?

There is no reason to remove the factory harness, it may be connecting to something you cant see, I think most people would recommend leaving your stock wiring intact.

I also leave the stock wiring, as long as it fits with 2 ring terminals.

MO Wire = MO Better.

if your going to take the time to run the wire for it might as well do it in 1/0 from the start.

As long as youve done the rest of the big 3 it cant hurt.
