Bi-amping subs in a mono sub box

Are you being sarcastic? And, either way, how do you know I used the search feature or not?
I do try and use the search feature as much as possible. I have been around forums for a few years now and.... I find myself doing more searching than posting.

no sarcasm intended..........for once. u actually came in knowledgeably about ur post (if thats a word). You didnt ask "yippy yippy, tell me what to buy" u have good equipment, a general knowledge of whats going on, and a GOOD question.....not ""sooo how do i get a 2 ohm load from 4 svc2's?"" meaning your post could be answered simply and knowledgeably.........not having to beat around the bush and tell u to get new equipment......thank you haha.

Could he wire the posative lead from one amp to the negative lead of the second amp and kinda bridge them together that way? Probubly a bad idea but thought I'd throw it out there.
What you're suggesting is wiring the subs in series. If he bridged them in series OR parllel he would only be able to use one amp unless they were linkable amps and I couldn't tell if they are or not. As far as series is concerned: when you wire 2 subs in series you double the resistance and divide your power input in half. I think a dual chamber enclosure is the best method in this case for optimum results.

I talked with JL and they themselves said that it would be ok to do as long as I volt tuned the gains. Either way, how hard can it be to add a center dividing piece?

As long as you can do it and TOTALLY seal it off from the other side it shouldn't be a problem.

Well, I did it with out the dividing factor. JL said it would work fine, and I am no pro, and completely understand the argument, but if JL said there amps are accurate enought to do it, how can you argue that?

Thanks! I try not to ask stupid questions, but I think I might have just asked a couple in another "topic" area. I hope not, but we'll see. I am on my out to vaccum up the mess in my car and put the false floor back in. Thanks again for all you guys advice!

the amps can do it, it is the guy installing them that has to be accurate.

Well, I did it, and would have left it... but one of my 500/1's went out on me. It was in the making before I even went with 2 amps. The stupid subsonic filter switch is shorting out. The amp would only come on when switch was like half way between on and off. When I put the w6v2's in there, it was just too much viberation for the switch, at high volume it would just cut out.

Shitty thing? When the switch first went bad, I was 7 days out of warranty AND to top it all off....... this is the only amp I HAVE EVER bought at a retail store!!!!!!!!! I always buy from ebay or online stores when it comes to this stuff. 7 days out and JL said no, we will not fix it..... I was so mad! It's not like I fried the amp or anything... it is a simple switch replacement.

Oh well, I went and bougth a 1000/1 instead! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I have to say, it does sound better. I think trying to match 2 amps to subs in a common enclosure is just to precise.

Why buy another JL amp after that one took a shit on you and then JL is being assholes about it. I would have steered clear after that. Just my opinion. Like I said before they are wayyyy too expensive for what you get.

Funny you should reply to this threar at this time. I just got off the phone with JL's warranty department ( I was talking to the tech guys before) and they stated that if the amp was bought and installed at an authorized dealer, the warranty is 2 years.

So.. I calle MR. Dealer who in the first place told me the warranty was only one year and told him that if he had a problem with it to call JL. The shop is going to take it back and JL is going to fix it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Good news man. I guess you need to watch that dealer a little closer from now on. But I'm glad to hear you're getting your amp fixed.

an amp going out is way more common than you think. a guy that i know used to be a JL dealer and he put them away because he said he was getting 20+ DOA amps a week! well, he is the #2 zapco dealer in the nation now with the lowest repair/warrenty ratio.

I guess I did speak a little hastily. I can't say that if one of my 5 PRS amps went out I would ditch all of them in favor of a different brand. I would just get it fixed and move on.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ya, I was buying JL before they even had the V2 versions, back in 97 & 98. I left car auido for a while, and now I am back. A lot to catch up on.

I don't know why, But I am just partial to JL. Might be overpriced, but now I can afford it, espeacially on Ebay.

You want to know what is weird? The only JL product I ever bought from an authorized dealer (500/1) went out on me. Knock on wood!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Actually, I just bought my second "JL Authorized" purchase. I was in a pinch and needed a 1000/1 so I said screw it and just bought it for 899.00. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif Good thing is....... I can take it back anytime in the next 4 years and they will just give me another one.

Too. bad I don't have the same protection with the JL subs I have.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif
