Bi-amping subs in a mono sub box

I currently have a jl audio 500/1 and 2 w3v2s. On the way I have 2 w6v2s. I have a fiberglassed box in my trunks wheel well. It does not have a seperate chamber for each sub.

If I volt tune 2 500/1 per jl's instructions, will it be ok to use 1 amp for each w6v2 in the type of box I have. It is sealed by the way.

What could be wrong? If you read the Gain Setting Tutorial in the amplifier section, mount the subs correctly and ensure that the enclosure has the correct volume for two subs you'll be fine.

Thanks!

yep. that would be the correct course of action, remember - get a Y addapter at the amps for the RCA lines. that way the signal for both amps will be identicle going in. and your gain setting will (should) make the signal going out the same as well. and try to make all the speaker wires the same exact length. not like it will make a hell of a difference, but while your at it why not.

a newb that searched, and had a clue?!?!?!?!?!?!

Are you being sarcastic? And, either way, how do you know I used the search feature or not?

I do try and use the search feature as much as possible. I have been around forums for a few years now and.... I find myself doing more searching than posting.

So you are saying to run my 2 sub RCA's off the deck into the 1st amp (WITHOUT the y adapter). Then use a y adapter off the first amps outputs and put a y adapter on the second amps inputs, then connect the 2 amps with one RCA cable.

Am I understanding this? It makes sense now that you mention it. It's basically just another way to ensure accurate, identical settings between the 2 amps.

Don't leave me haning req.....

You shouldn't even need a Y adapter as long as those amps you have have a pass thru or output on them. This way you go into one amp from the deck and run a seperate set of rca's out of that amp and into the second amp. I would think as much as those JL amps run MSRP that they would have one.

with JLs you can set them up as a master/slave configuration. one amp controls the other. like mine. i have one 500/1 with all the settings adjusted and it feeds the other 500/1 (which has all settings defeated) the same signal so you dont even touch the settings on the other amp. only the gain. i wouldnt reccomend running two amps to two speakers in one common box though. a partition is necessary.

Wouldn't it be the same as running one BIG amp to 2 speakers in a common box??

I'm a little confused on this.

yes and no. the adjustments will all be identical. but even with a dmm you cant set the gain perfect enough to be 100% safe from one amp being out of adjustment. they just cant be matched perfect enough. voltage does weird things sometimes. two same amplifiers wont have identical specs/efficiency/whatever. they will be close, but not identical. it just leaves too much room for error. if one amp is out of adjustment it can cause the other speaker to blow or vis-virsa.

Could he wire the posative lead from one amp to the negative lead of the second amp and kinda bridge them together that way? Probubly a bad idea but thought I'd throw it out there.
