better speakers or replace the head unit?

given a limited budget of say $800, would you rather use an existing stock head unit (am/fm/tape/build in 6 disc changer head unit) and put your money towards better speakers and/or amplifier, or buy somewhat cheaper speakers/amp and invest in a good head unit?

are you pleased with the sound output of your current head unit? With $800 even, after every little charge you're gonna have to deal with, I'd keep the in-dash 6er, then buy some **** nice speakers to fill your cabin. what kind of car do you have?

03 Acura RSX.. i like the head unit function and looks-wise but the stock stereo overall sucks (bose). was planning on replacing front and rear speakers and buying a 4 channel amp.. maybe add a sub later if i want more low's but for starters was thinking of NOT getting a head unit and spending that money on even better speakers..

Right now i'm looking at focal polykevlar 156k's up front, infinity kappa 63.5i's in the rear, and a usx4065 4x65W amp to drive them..

speaker is the most important thing in your car, IMO. it creates the most distortion so it better to have after market speakers with stock headunit than an aftermarket headunit with stock speakers. the stock speakers are pretty much maxed out already.

sorta funny the bose in my mom's car sounds good...suprise for you to say that they **** for stock...probably one of the best you can get in your car is bose for a normal priced car...

I'll put a vote in for a head unit change. You can get a very good one for around $200 and still have money to upgrade your speakers. I am of the belief that a head unit is the most important piece in any system because everything is connected to it. That is of course just my opinion, but in this case I think you can have your cake and eat it too, so-to-speak.

i also think u should go with speakers and amp, but if u want subs later i think u should start off now with a deck. But for 800 dollars u could get all 3..... so i dont see why ur choosing
