Better power/upgrade options....

I enjoy what I have right now. The sound is good and loud for what it is. I am a noob when it comes to home audio, and that is why I am wanting to know a little bit more. I think I have gained enough knowledge in car audio for what I need and I am satisfied with what I have in that. I have wound up spending more time watching movies and listening to music inside and would like to hear what you guys think I should upgrade to get even better sound, maybe even louder.

Current:

receiver/amp: Sony STR-K700

center: Bose 201v (@

right/left: Dayton B652s (@ 8ohm)

subwoofer: IDQv2d4 (@ 4ohm)

enclosure: ~5.5 @ 22hz (i think)

Specs for amp

Power Output--Stereo (120-20,000 Hz, both channels driven, 6 ohms,

Power Output--Satellites (1 kHz, 6 ohms, 10% THD): 133 watts x 5 channels (Front L/R, Center, Surround L/R)

Power Output--Subwoofer (100Hz, 6 ohms, 10% THD): 135 watts x 1 channel

Reproduction Frequency Range: 28Hz-20kHz

I know it isn't good to have these lower impedances than the amp recommends, but I monitor it pretty well and it has never shut off or over heated. I am thinking a new amp or multiple would be beneficial to overall sound, but I have no idea what the best way of going about getting new amps. I would prefer a 5 channel to keep it simple, but from what I have seen it doesn't really work like that. I am not trying to spend thousands at this moment in time, but I would like to know a good direction to head in.

looks like ill have too huh. There are just lots that have hopped on here before and dished out mad comments of how my stuff ****** or laughed at what I was doing. Now I come here for help and get no responses. I figured some of those guys that laughed or whatever would be able to give knowledgeable criticism, but turns out I don't think they knew anything and just had their hate pants on.

Yeah, me too. BUT, I have had this for i think almost 2 years now. Like I said, I monitor the heat, the amp has a protect mode, and the lowest impedance is 4ohm and the amp is rated at 6ohm... Not that big of a difference or my amp is built pretty well.

Get a Denon reciever and some polk audio speakers. Will never go wrong that route. Get full towers for front tho

I am thinking 2 towers with like 6"-8" midbass (maybe 2 per), 3-4" midrange, 1" tweets for both sides, and then just keep the sub and enclosure. Better power is kind of what I am looking for without raping my finances. I would like to build the towers just to take up some time whenever I get it and so I can say I did it rather than bought it

Cool. So here is your main focus then: Matching speakers. You need for the center, fronts, and rears, at least, to all be matching. You may want a matching sub as well, but that is less important. For home theater, I would rather run a full matching budget Onkyo set than mismatched high-end pieces. It's a HUGE difference.

The receiver is less important. In my opinion, what matters most is not the power that it puts out, but its processing capabilities. HDMI is probably the best route to take right now, since it's the easiest and arguably the best signal-sending method. You'll want a TV that accepts HDMI if you don't have one already.

Cables play a small roll. For your interconnects, I suggest you buy some mid priced mid-fi cables, like Ixos. I'm not really into all the cable hype, but I noticed a pretty audible difference in the midrange when I switched to Ixos, which should greatly improve the movie experience (voices). For speaker wire, 16ga is fine, 12ga is probably the biggest you should go.

Finally, get a decent source. Blu-Ray is a significant difference as far as the sound experience goes, much more so than the picture quality imo. Get a decent one with HDMI out and call it good.

I like that you want to go the DIY route with speakers. Partsexpress.com is your best friend, followed by Madisound. I believe PE has some DIY kits that will increase your Peen size and be nicer on the wallet. Plus, after all is said and done, it will be much more "worth it", considering you put so much time into it.

Check out Onkyo for receivers, they are fairly inexpensive and are still a great product.

The least amount possible. It will be done over time. Why are stands important, just to get them away from the wall?

well you could improve your sub by getting a seperate plate amp for it. I've also been looking into some DIY home projects partsexpress has some really good ones, something like these would be sweet Parts Express DIY Project
